What pickups are good?

What pickups are good for the rock/metal-ish feel and how much do they cost? My guitar is sx standard series and i would like to change the pickup. Any recommendations?

And also, which strings are better? D'addario or Ernie ball?

aint really familiar with sx guitars. but my favs are bareknuckles pickups. prices you can check'em out with TYMC. strings wise..its a matter of preference bahh. my preference is ernie balls.

I went from Ernie Balls Slinkies to D'addarios XLs because they were cheaper lol.

Strings are something that you'll have to change often, so just try different brands. I used to stick to the two you mentioned but currently trying out GHS Boomers. The coated version seems pretty good and much cheaper than other coated strings. Can be found at Standard Value http://standardvalue.com.sg/

for rock/metal you'll definitely want a good humbucker. personally, i'd recommend seymour duncan, i've got a seymour duncan JB in my guitar and it's a really versatile pickup with lots of clarity, great for hard rock and reasonably high gain stuff.

Your SX has single coils or humbuckers? we can recommend stuff but it depends on your budget too.

Hohoho, now I finally understand what you guys meant by changing to branded pickups on a cheap guitar..
Back to topic, I recommend EMG if you like verry chuggy and crunchy distortion and use chorus/reverb for cleans and you'll get good tone haha, just my experience. They are not really good playing clean, err clean... (No effects)

If you are looking for cheap and high output, you can get those sky pickups at Guitar Connection. However if you are looking for something more expensive and focused, you could check out youtube for some Dimarzio pickup clips and hear which ones you like best. If you decide to go boutique, the money in your wallet is the limit.

I think pedals > pickups, for me lah. SX guitars are actually pretty decent lah, but if you want to get a decent humbucker, go get a SD JB
