Hey fellow softies!

Ive been playing for bout a year now and have picked up a ESP LTD H-1001 and Vox VT30 into my arsenal of Rocking-ness.. and therefore am looking into investing into a Multi-effects board as I have always been relaying on my VT30's onboard delays.

My budget is under 1k and ive tried out the Vox Tonelab LE and the Line 6 Pod X3(which i find really confusing to use but is kinda badass). Any other boards to recommend? (:

Appreciate it!

Cheers,
Shamus

Boss MFX. Then there's Zoom and Korg... You have to go down and try with your guitar and amp to see if it sounds good. What sounds good on my amp and guitars may not sound good on yours.
Why'd you need a MFX though?
'...have always been relying on my onboard delays...'
If you only want a delay, get a good sturdy delay. In a MFX you're paying for all the efx, so if you only use a few it's not worth it.

I would recommend these MFX pedals

1. Pod X3 Live

Great amp simulator and effects for you to play around. Lots of function. I will buy this if I have the money now.

2. TC nova system

Pristine clear and high quality modulations and delay etc etc. Really one of the best you can get. Lots of effects as well.
But the drive sucks really bad for me.

Psylix, will you be using a lot of effects? Or not much?

If you won't be using a lot of effects, you can try a smaller MFX like the Zoom G2 series or Boss ME-25. Those are smaller, easier to use and more compact, especially if you have to bring them around. I personally use a Line 6 Floor POD which is adequate for me since I don't use a whole lot of effects.

If you will be using a lot of effects, then a larger MFX is necessary.

Complicated or not, you'll find it easy to use after you read through the manual and gotten familiar with it. If they were really that complicated and difficult to use, they probably won't be as popular as they are now.

If you decide to add in an analogue drive pedal, do experiment with the perfect arrangement (whether the pedal is placed after the MFX or between the amp and MFX) because depending where it's put, both devices will respond differently.

i think zoom G2 series has a great sound for its modulations and phaser, chorus, delays quite ok. And for the price its a really worthy buy.

The amp simulations are also quite good when used used the wah booster effect, can sound really good with a good amp hahah pardon the bad playing but this was my sound when i was using the G2 with marshall simulation and wah booster on the slash tone, the amp was a roland jz chorus. hahah this was one of the first gigs my band has done so please dont be harsh on the playing hahahah.

however the zoom pedal is really really difficult to use live as your sounds are all stored in presets so making changes to your sound is quite tedious. I moved on to analog effects.

U could try a zoom G7.1ut, it should sound better than the G2 and effects can be stored in banks, which is basically more like stompbox form when u decide when to have yr effects like delay and chorus coming on via the stomp switches

The built in tube preamp also seems useful for live applications such as plugging straight into a mixer etc.

However one thing bout zoom pedals are that the expression pedal gets very squeeky at times and some effects such as wah are not as good. Perhaps you could look into getting a real wah pedal if you really need a wah.

i have never tried other multi effects, never tried the zoom g7 before too :P, but i think dere are definately many great multi efx out there such as the boss gt-10 and podxt live and vox tonelab. You should probably try them out or check online clips. I vote for zoom g7 if u r on a tight budget though :D

You can create patches for the Zoom to get the sound you want.

The 12AX7 in the Zooms have little to no bearing on how or what you hook up the boards to. The tube/s serve as a boost, increase the gain or to amplify the guitar signal before being processed, depending on model.

Are u going to use your amp's input jack most of the time? Then u can try the line 6 m9/m13.
i was about to recommend that also, but the only problem is that the vt30 has no effects loop. imagine all the delays and stuff before the amp's solid distortions.. oo hairy stuff!! haha

actually, the vt30 is quite a good modelling amp. it will take multi effects well on a clean model, but that's a lil wasting of resources right? use a modelling multi effects unit in front of a modelling amp. O_o that said, a pod x3 live is easy to use after reading the manual and playing with it for 15 minutes

I'd go with the Pod X3 Live. It looks killer, has many many connection options, is very versatile, has many tonal options and is actually one of the easiest MFXs to use. Like one poster mentioned earlier, read the manual, play around with it for 15mins, and voila!
