What is the true cheapest Microphone for vocal recording to PC?

TS, seriously 20 bucks can't get you anything decent enough for vocal recording. Maybe you can try cash converter for some 2nd hand computer or karaoke mic but my honest advice to you would be to save up to get at least a Shure SM57 or SM58 microphone they are going to last you a long way.

I got mine for $12. Philips.
I don't know about their quality in recording cos I use them for jamming purposes only.
:)

I bought a sm57 at a shop at level 1 of sim lim, its kinda of a pro audio shop that I forgot the name...I got it for $118, I think its the cheapest. For sm58, I think it cost $145 at Hung's brother...maybe you contact them for more details.

you want decent? and you only have 20 bucks? sorry..even 200 dollars won't get you decent stuff for recording. maybe for a demo is okay..but if you want anything semi-pro standard onwards you gonna have to fork out at least 800 for a mic. 20 bucks can't get you anything.

for vocals a decent demo standard mic would be B1s. they're value for money. about 200 bucks.

It's not all about the gear sometimes, and you don't really need a 800 bucks mic to sound decent, you can do it with a 200 bucks mic too with skills in microphone recording techniques as well as good mixing ability. You can do it. But 20 dollars is still too...I recommend Audio Technica AT2020 mic for the price performance...its only $150 at Hung's Brother.

Just as a word of caution... SM57s go for $160 on avg. At $118, unless you got it as a display piece or some close out deal.. you might have landed yourself a fake. There have been well documented account of fake Shure SM57/58s surfacing and unfortunately Sim Lim is one of the places that holds the dubious distinction for shops pulling a fast one on their customers.

The thing is, and i've spoken to some in the industry, the fakes are so well produced that its almost impossible to tell it apart with just a cursory glance. You'll need to open the mic and take a look inside, and check the pouch it comes with; fakes a known to be produced in such great detail down to the box design etc. See

for details on how to tell if your piece is a fake.

I need a cheap microphone for vocal recording...budget around 20 below if possible....

A mic at the price of 2 packs of smokes? Dream on dude, let me know if you find one. I'll pay you twice for it..

I bet you won't even find someone to loan you a mic for $20....

Actually, I found a pink one at toys r us with a mic stand for my daughter.... Something along the lines of $15 with a 1/8" connector. Gave me a REALLY nice distorted tone for screamo n if you messed with it, you could even get a nice slapback and feedback effect from it.. Even plug a guitar in to get an unusual distortion.

Stretch your budget more mate, get a 2nd hand SM57/58 if your budget's really that tight, take good care of them, will last for many many years. It's hardware dude, can't hack it.... too bad.

$20 i don't think can cut it. Not unless yo can settle with an ordinary dynamic mic and plug it into your pc sound card.

But if you would like some decent quality,USB condenser mics are best for recording vocals

Of course what I would suggest is the one I have. CAD u37 USB. Got it from Hung Bros 3rd floor in sim lim. Though one thing to consider before buying this is your room, is it sound proof enough. Or get a Samson USB mics, the lastest still i beleive is the C03U. Don't think have yet the c04u here. All these are USB so these types are the cheapest as you can just plug itto your pc. No need for phamtom power and decent soundcard, you should still have a soundcard though to hear what you record. Any pc these days should already have one lol

the shure mics are even better but, will you plug it into your pc sound card? Not unless your pc already has a decent souncard, then you will also not get the proper results.

up your budget a little and give the audio technica AT2020 USB a try. Its retailing at $250. really good mic. Very bang for the buck. I used it over the weekend and got really good results.
