What is an FX loop?

Hey guys... my noob question for the day...What is an FX loop? How do u go around to place your pedals through the amp and stuff??? And does it necessarily make ure sound better?

but what i think is that for delay

i put this way

guit > dist > phase > delay > amp

try diff comb, which one gives u the best sound use la ;D

Its essentially a "loop" so if you chain you pedals to there its...

Guitar-->amp<-- pedals

Experts correct me if I'm wrong:

The effects loop on the amp is usually for putting effects after the preamp section. Usually modulation effects are put at the loop as they -may- usually sound better there.

To use -

Guitar -> (Possible Gain pedals) -> Amp

Send -> Modulation pedals -> Return

You can experiment with other effects as well.

Yup. This is the way it is used.

The effects loop also servs as a good place to put a Volume pedal and EQ.
Modulations go there as well because some people like to have a amp thats already overdriven and use overdrives to make it distort even more. Having a delay pedal before the preamp stage will make that sound really really odd. Hence the effects loop.

Sorry to bump in,I have to questions to ask too.

For all you fx modeller users,be it the Gt8,Pod XTLive,Vox Tonelab SE
or whatnot,help me on this.

I am using the GT8,and since I'm using the preamps in my GT8,where should I hook it up to?I've set everything right(for earphones/line in use)and if I plug in through the Input of my amp,both the preamps (of the amp,and the one I'm using in my GT8) would 'clash' right?Assuming that I have an amp with an fx send/return,where should I hook it up to?I know I need an FRFR amp,or a Tech 21 power engine to at fully utilise my GT8,I guess Plugging into an amp's fx loop would at least be of some use right?

I'm already beginning to go round the bush,and I don't really like that.Sorry,someone please enlighten me on this.Thank you so much.
