What I found at the Harris SALE.

There is a storewide 25% sale at Harris Suntec City currently. A selected portion of books are at 50%, quite a big selection actually.

And look at what I unearthed; that's one heavy thick-ass book of total-guitar-porno.

What really impressed me was:

- The gorgeously detailed pictures of some of more famous and stunning guitars around.

- The interesting and insightful write-ups. I learned a lot about some guitars that I thought I already knew pretty well. That's the thing about some guitar books, they go on and on about stuff that we already know.

- The diverse and very comprehensive range of guitars covered.

Here's how this books works. They go in alphabetical order of guitar manufacturers, and feature some of the makers' more notable offerings.
All the common brands like Gibson, Fender, ESP, PRS, Martin Taylor, Santa Cruz, Jackson, B.C Rich, Epiphone, Ovation, Gretsch, etc are all there.

There there are the less mainstream names, which often means boutique prices, from Alembic to Atkin, Benedetto to Brook, Collings to Daion, Eko to Fydle, Grimshaw to Kay, Norman to Vigier, Wesselbaum to Zemaitis, etc are all there as well!

And then, everything in between, such as Harmony to Santa Cruz, Andy Manson to Hugh Manson, Lowden to Tokai, Lakewood to Wechter, Tom Anderson to Dobro, etc.

Also features some of the really famous luthiers like Torres and Ramirez, etc.

Over 365 guitars featured! Original price was $80.90, with the 50% off, it's $40.90. I bought it without a moment's hesitation.

Yes, there were about 3, maybe 4 copies left? They are right at the back of store.

It goes right up to end of 2006. So it wouldn't have the robot guitars and Taylor electrics.
But it features guitars from 1831 to 2006, so it's more than enough for me to sink my teeth into for the moment.

(:

this was something that i was eyeing before. HMV used to have a diluted version of a guitar picture encyclopaedia, but when i went back looking for it wasnt there anymore.

Pity you can't find many of those brands in Singapore. Didn't see that book but I saw something similar some time back, about acoustic guitars. Most of the brand names inside were unfamiliar premier brands, the type that really handcraft their guitars and ship them by a few rather than by hundreds a day. That book was at a Popular sale and was going at $5. Arrgh!

This one seems nice but problem with these kind of books, they give me GAS!

Actually, if you know where to look, there are some places where they have nice, higher-end acoustics.
Sinamex carries Taylor, they just brought in some R.Taylors. Wonder if there's any left.
Guitar Gallery has Santa Cruz, Goodall, Gibson, Composite Acoustics, etc.
Citymusic has Martin and Ovation.

I heard some guys telling me about this place in Bukit Timah where the pricey classicals are. Never been there personally though.

GAS.. well.
They say ignorance is bliss. But then again, I'd rather know everything!

i went today and bought myself a copy. at first i thought my luck ran out coz it seemed like it was sold out. however, i didnt give up and found them stacked in the shelves. i was expecting to see them on the 50% off bargain books table (located right at the back end of the store, btw, HARRIS is in SUNTEC tower 2 near CARREFOUR).

there i saw 2 copies. of course i bought one so theres only ONE left! and i hid it. hehehe

only the persevering hunter will find it. :P

or better yet ask me?

sorry if you think its a mischevous thing to do. well, ok it was. but i want the one who badly wants it to get it. not someone who sees it simply interesting to pick it up and buy it, then leave it in the coffee table to rot. ya know.

its there hidden behind the books entitled PANORAMA OF THE CLASSICAL WORLD, 3RD SHELF to the left from the corner (where the 50% bargain books are), on the most bottom shelf. :) hurry! (adjacent to the cooking books)

was there just today. not looking for this book coz it seems from the thread that it's probably sold out.

but, I ended up getting this one too coz I just think it's really cheap. It's going for $59.90 with 50% >> $29.95 only! Not sure if they've revised the price when some of you went down earlier (hence 'missing')
There's a quite a lot more when I left, abt 10 copies or so

Anyway, if you're looking for other books, I think this is a good book sale to go to.
No I don't work for Harris :)

Oh BTW, I'm probably one of those who would buy the book and leave it at the coffee table. still, I think it's cool to own one of these.

It dropped from $80.90 to $59.90? The same book?

If it did then my Singaporean tulan-ness is going to rear it's ugly head.

Hey dude! I bought my copy today. Left 3 more beneath mine. Hehe. And it's 29.90 after the 50% discount. I guess they slashed the price.
