What brand of strings do you use for your Floyd Rose?

Ernie ball .09, is it me or did Ernie ball change something about their strings? I get this sorta flimsy tone when I started using the newly packaged ones.

Btw, does your .10 pull up your FR? I tried to use .10 but it pulled up my bridge in standard tune so I stopped.....would like to use em though

So should I loosen the springs or tighten them?

tighten the springs so that more force will be exerted to pull the bridge back till its parallel to the body.

anyway, does brand of strings affect the performance of a floyd rose? cos imo i dont think it does.

different strings do come with different tensions. tried a pack of markley blue steels and the tension was way off, too high. elixirs seem to be less stiff, more flex. fav so far is d'add firstly cos they are cheap and secondly they sound really good straight outta the wrap for the first 2-3days or so.

I did hear a couple saying that certain brand of strings won't work well with certain guitars because of how the strings are made and how it wouldn't be compatible and stuff but I haven't encountered it yet. Thanks for the enlightenment, penta-tonic.

Anyway, XLayaR, you need to tighten the springs and adjust the truss rod. This is because the strings' gauge is heavier and thus more tension is being applied when you restring, causing the Floyd Rose to 'rose' (love the pun!) in terms of the level.

I'd recommend bringing it to a luthier to get it setup if you want to change gauge, and from there learn and then you can do it yourself next time. I sent mine to Beez and he set it up for me, so I learnt how to set up a Floyd Rose and I can do it on my own now.

Do visit the Floyd Rose website, they give you tips on stuff, like how to restring and etc.

I use D'Addario 10-46 on my OFR strat..
dont feel like using nnines, I always feel it will snap..too thin for me. hehe

Elixir Nanowebs 9's are well balanced from string to string when bending and pulling up and down. Much better for me than ernie ball and daddarios. Only downside is that the coating comes off too fast. Might want to try polywebs which have a thicker coating.

I would recommend Darco strings. Not only are they cheap, they sound good and feel really smooth. Should try a packet to know what I mean.

Right now, I have a few choices as suggested by some of you guys: Elixir (I tried the acoustic ones, they're good until the tone dies "suddenly one day" then you'd have to replace them), Draco and Everly. I'll think about it and see how it goes first.

10's. ernie ball regular slinkies for me on my strats, tele's, les pauls and Ibanez RG
11's. for my gretsch. hollow bodied guitars tend to sound nicer with higher guages.
13's for my acoustic.

strings usually react the same way even if you are on a floyd rose bridge. I have not seen or felt and differences on a floyd rose.

I'm usually more concerned on how long they will last. so far, the newly packaged ernie ball's seem to last a little longer on those normal strings. I have stuck to it for a pretty long time.

And they are easily acquired as well. most guitar shops have the ernie balls.

I use the Hybrid slinky from Ernie Ball... 9/11/16 for the E/B/G and stronger ones for D/A/E 26/36/46. Quite good to have more flexible strings in the high notes and still some boost on power chords.

I'm happy with those for many years.

Cheers!
