What amp/pedal should i get?

Hi guys. I have been playing the electric guitar for 3 months. I bought a 90$ 10w laney amp together with the guitar. Recently, I have been attempting to play some metal songs. Most of the songs require high gain to sound like the mp3. I realised that my built in amp distortion was not going to get me that kind of distortion so I went to buy a cheap danelectro fab metal pedal.

Even at low gain i can barely make out what im playing as there will be so much buzzing/fuzzing. When i bend strings it sounds like someone is farting.

Can you guys recommend me a amp/pedal to buy? I want something that will give me a very nice heavy, thick distortion and also very quiet. Something like the lamb of god tone.

Im just a bedroom player so it dosnt matter if the amp is soft. I live in a HDB so I cant play at high volumes. I am still a student, so my budget is only around 200-500$. The cheaper the better, so i can spend the money on other stuff :). Thanks for reading.

you might wanna check this pedal out ($75):

u have a pretty good budget. u can probably spend 200 on an amp and leave 300 for pedals.

go around trying them and see what u like thats the best thing to do. yeah the roland cube is an excellent bedroom amp.

pedals, there are just too many out there alrdy. like i said go do some research and try them out

amt electronic dt2 distation is great!
should try...
or electro harmonix metal muff or micro metal muff.
both sound great!

just buy yourself a small MFX unit - with $500 you can get a 2nd hand GT6/8 or a POD XT/XTL. Then you have all the options you'll ever need.

Most standard 10/15-watt practice amplifiers aren't built to enter high-gain territory, except those digital amplifiers like the Roland Cube or Line 6 Spider III. You might want to check those out if you're someone who prefers a direct guitar to amplifier setup.

I personally use my amplifier only for cleans, and my two pedals for differing levels of distortion. When it comes to real awesome distortion intense enough for death metal, and without that nasal sound, you should check out the Beta Aivin HM-200 Heavy Metal. $85 at Standard Value. (www.standardvalue.com.sg). Check out my review in the reviews section.

Sg-15

I suggest getting a new amp after you get your pedal, sound drive at standard value is highly recommended. Esp the SG-15, do check it out if you have time.

It's all about preference. Whether you want an amp just for cleans and use pedals for distortion/effects or you want a guitar plugged straight to an amp with onboard effects.

Hi guys! Thanks for all your suggestions. I have decided to buy either the roland cube 15x or the 30x. Other than the 30x being louder and having more effects and stuff, is there a difference between those 2 amps? Like tone or the amount of distortion they can give.

I'm Supporting you for a cube!
but 15 and 30 aren't going to make much of a difference actually since you're pretty much of a HDB player like me. i'm using the 30x!
never regretting it!
i know i'm repeating but.
30X! never fail!
anyways, just to summarise.

Effects wise,

15x has.
(OVERDRIVE, DISTORTION, METAL, METAL STACK),

30x has.
(ACOUSTIC, BLACK PANEL, BRIT COMBO, TWEED, CLASSIC STACK, METAL STACK, R-FIER STACK, DYNA AMP),
PLUS
(CHORUS, FLANGER, PHASER, TREMOLO),
PLUS
DELAY/REVERB.

sides, built in tuner. saves the damn hassle.

need i say more?
LOL.

i don't really recommend 60x though, it's a big jump from the 30,
might just spend the money on pedals or PUs.
and since you're pretty much a indoor player, it works just fine.
i play around 25% volume and parents complains about volume already.
HAHA.

60x

I was thinking of just buying a pod 2.0 so i can plug the guitar directly into my computer as i have pretty decent pc speakers. I have heard a lot of very nice sounds from people who used the pod. What are the pros and cons of doing that? My pc only has an onboard soundcard. Do i need to get a real soundcard to use the pod?

onboard soundcard works just fine. You could plug in to headphones instead of ur PC speakers if you're afraid it might sound awful. But usually, i'd plug in to headphones anyway.

Pros & Cons?
Well..Pod 2.0 is suited for recording & home use. Not so much for performances.
Pod 2.0 are digital effects. It gives you a wide range of effects/amps/cabs you'll probably ever need. However, you could hop on to individual effect pedals after that though..thats if you prefer individual effects sound. Or you could upgrade to Pod X3..

It's not that easy to get nice sounds though. You need to have patience to slowly tweak and tweak..till u get the hang of it & the sound u want. Which is why some people give up after awhile..

hey sorry to hijack ur thread haha..
but i wanna ask..
if i wanna use pedals for effects..
is the epiphone valve jr with only volume control enough?
is it good?
is there any effectless amps that has a jack for recording or wat?
thnx

yes the valve jr is enough if u want to use pedals. good? personally i like it. u have to hear it to like. different people different taste i guess.

what do you mean effectless amp? those that only have one channel(clean) or those without built in modulations?

my friend also recommende it..i gonna try it out soon..
yeah i'm referring to the clean only kind of amps..haha "effectless" amps..
