hey is it true that you can create those scratchy turntable sounds on the guitar?? and how??

seeing a vid i think he used a wah wah pedal and just muted the strings while strumming it and whacking and sliding them with the whammy bar.

and how does vai do this effect at 1:06???

-2 vol pots, off the neck pup or cutoff switch
-use fretting hand to scratch to the beat while toggling away

Morello uses a killswitch to do that part. I saw it on a video on youtube before.
