Just because you spent more on a customized guitar does not mean the market worth is more than say, a well known brand. Because brand name contributes to the market value of the said guitar right? Considering that Hamer recently just closed its US custom shop office, the price and market value of Hamer USA guitars are going on the rise.
It's understandable that how much a person values the gears they are selling are their own business, but if you bring it out for discussion (in this case, the trade value of the Hamer Monaco Elite vs Warmoth Custom Partscaster), then by all means be prepared for some discussion in terms of market value of the guitars in question.
Warmoth is a well known brand, you are implying that it's not. You mentioned Hamer closing their office but ignored the fact that Padauk is an endangered wood which Warmoth and other manufacturers don't offer anymore.
Biased post is biased.
Mammoth...seems like you've been trying to sell this guitar for years man...I could see your weekend sale thread every week without fail...it's sad to say that customized guitar doesn't seem to have much market value over here...even big brands like fender and Gibson are really hard to sell these days despite the already fabulous price...everybody just keep low balling one another...the forum is just not the same anymore as back in circa 2007-2009...good times are gone.. Damn I'm losing faith.
Damn right there are lots of lowballers these days. The disturbing thing is that the lowballers are getting more emboldened, probably due to some sellers being too passive and not willing to tell these people off. Such sellers are not making things easier for themselves and the whole community because it is allowing this toxic lowballing culture to breed.
I don't see anything wrong with it. He is just stating his opinion, which I agree with. If you are selling a guitar, you don't want to make potential buyers uncomfortable. By talking the way he does in the main post, it's exactly what he is doing.
I'm not going to mention names here, but there are a few sellers who have trouble selling their stuff because of the way they speak. Things like "don't ask stupid questions, I already stated in my post" or "don't come and tell me you can buy one brand new for $xx"
This is basic customer service. Guitarsan was just giving his opinion which people can take as advise.
The only people who will feel uncomfortable are the ones I want to filter out - the lowballers. I don't see how any decent buyer will be put off by comments aimed at lowballers. Do you feel uncomfortable when someone says "I hate rats", unless you are one?
so many replies! it's really interesting to see other peoples point of view. As for this whole issue i was just a little peeved that the moment i proposed the trade to mammoth he immediately labeled my guitar as being inferior and cheaper whilst also calling my intellect into question claiming i did not know how to read and failed to infer the meaning of "Cash is King". so seeing how aggressive he was, i decided to enlighten him and show him that not everyone will put up with his confrontational nonsense and how arguments by reasons and logic are more effective then throwing insults around.
The only issue some of you guys have with me is that i seemed to have low balled him? that is a matter of personal opinion and even then i feel it is still justified because of the fact that no one paid mammoths asking price for months already and also based on the previous sellers trade value of my guitar. Even then, if he felt it was a low ball, a simple no or a i dont do trades would have sufficed and this dispute could have been avoided. Nothing worth getting angry or fired up about! the ad is just an invitation to treat and my offer could have easily been rejected with a simple no.
Your arguments carry no reason or logic. I insulted you and reasoned with you but you are beyond reason.
I insulted you because you tried to rip me off.
Iamanoob, you are obviously not following what has been said and i have to disagree with you. let me explain. firstly, he did not start the thread saying he is not interested in trade. The closest thing he said that may imply he is not interested in trades is "cash is king". That phrase as mentioned earlier by myself and also by david fong suggests that cash deals are preferred but in no way absolutely suggests that trades wont be considered. If you want to dispute this point, please do so with an explanation on your reasoning.
As for the guitar being sold for $850 on another forum, i just took a look at it. For this it must be firstly noted that it is in USD. In addition the exception does not make the rule. The MARKET resale value goes all the way up to over $1600 USD (with people paying for it, and not left unsold for many months). I researched this before i got the guitar. The guitar going for $850 could be for a multitude of reasons not related to the value of the guitar brand, (i.e he could be in urgent need of cash, guitar is haunted or a murder weapon, has some defect...etc).. in addition, if you look at the posts in the forum where it sold for $850 USD. People agree that that is a "great", "insane" price. I dont see people saying that on mammoths posts? so i humbly suggests that u take all this facts into consideration before you start rolling on the floor and laughing.
For anyone getting angry, we could do a vote and im sure most people wont be getting angry. On the contrary, it is of my opinion that if they dont like it will choose not to reply, say no, or choose to re-negotiate the terms of the trade.
As stated previously you finding the offer ridiculous is your personal opinion, i on the other hand still find it fair and i was sincere when proposing the trade or else i wouldnt even have made the offer in the first place. Even then once again i repeat, if he did not like it, he could easily have not accepted it and turned it down politely.
Please correct me if im wrong
I did say CASH IS KING, but as others have rightly pointed out, I also said that I don't want to trade. But trading is not what ticked me off, because if you offered me a reasonable trade deal for a guitar that I'm not interested in, I would have just said no or ignored the offer. I was only ticked off because you wanted to rip me off.
I think with all the evidence here about your guitar's price history from ex owners' advertisements, it is very clear your guitar is not worth $1000 more than mine. It is a very clear case of trying to rip me off. Yet, you are still shameless enough to defend yourself until now, going round and round with arguments that hold no water.
It's laughable that just because you didn't see anyone praise my guitar publicly, you deem it as permission to lowball me, push down the value of my guitar and attempt to colour other people's perception of my guitar. I've had people praise my guitar in advertisements and privately. Initially I advertised this guitar for a higher price and I received quite alot of enquiries and offers, but nobody bought because they didn't have the cash. So I saw it as the market being bad, and lowballed myself, but this is not the right way because it is inviting lowballers and I spoiled my own market. Also received trade offers that I declined, politely. Had several lowball cash offers too, which I declined as well, but I didn't feel ripped off until you came into the picture.
Your own guitar was sold for $850, you said it yourself it could be due to defects etc. Need I say more?
