I personally havent used Pacific Snare before, but i assume is DW Pacific.. I personally tried the Pacific range.. its pretty much horrible.. Pearl Omar Hakim is pretty much a power piccolo, that if is you dont mind high pitch and lots of overtones. I used to have a Marvin Smith's but then i don't like the sound, so i changed to Oak Custom. Tama Starclassic Snare is the best choice, but if you have budget, try the Bubinga shell with abalone inlays. Its solid.. deep and nice. PLUS there is only 300 in the world.. AND better still, if you change snare wires to a Puresound Custom 30 strands, trust me.. Its like a snare that hasn't be virtually built before. Hope this helps. Btw, be prepared to fork out around 1000 odd.

heard of Puresound snares b4, but r they really that good?
and wat's the differences between 30 strands and anithing lesser.
Also, how many strands will be the best for a brass snare?

Puresound

The more strands = more snare sensitivity. For example, a drum roll on a snare with more strands sounds more "snare like" whereas lesser strands generates a "don't know how to describe" sound. Nevertheless, i think its an issue of personal preference, but i am using a 14X8 oak custom snare, with 30 strands and it sounds good. you can use that as a reference with your brass snare. :D good luck. :D

Get puresound wires man, i was contemplating for the longest time about whether i should get them or not when i did oooOOOoOOOOoooo baby. they just make the snare so much more responsive.
more snare wires, the snare is more sensitive and u'll hear more snare sound. becareful cause the sympathetic snare buzz is going to be alot.
less snares, u get more of a drier sound, u hear more fo the timbale like sound of the drum. less buzz.
if ur unsure i recommend getting the standard 20strand one. if ur playing alot of ghost notes 20strand does just fine, if ur going for hard loud volume playing the equalizers i think thats wat their called is pretty awesome.

The Omar Hakim snare is great. I love it! But it depends on what kinda songs you play. I avoid using it for mellow songs because of its cutting bright tone.
