Pay day is just around the corner. And I'm dying to get my hands on a guitar and a multi-effects pedal board since being away from playing music (yes, im making a comeback of sorts).

The guitar part, i've figured out already. I'm an Ibanez fan eversince. but what i'm confused about is the multi effects processor that i will purchase by the end of the month.

To those who have tried the Vox ToneLab LE or the Zoom G9.2tt, which of the 2 sounds better or would do a better job?

Which of the 2 should i buy?

Your opinions are most welcome.

Thanks in advance to those who will post their comments.

You want multi efx? or multiefx + amp modeller? Try the POD X3 Live and the POD Stomp Modeller before you decide. Line 6 are one of the very best companies in this line.

hi whitestrat!

sorry i didnt mention that my budget is limited so i had to choose between a vox tonelab LE and a zoom g9.2tt.

the vox tonelab LE seems to be more affordable at $325 sgd as compared to zoom's g9.2tt at $492 both available at city music (both prices are already the sale/discounted price) but since i have $500 budget on effects, i just want to know who's better or if there's anything better than these 2 at $500 below, please let me know.

Hi, what kind of music do you play? Also what guitars do you have? I own the tonelab LE, it sounds really good for Low gain and cleans, and can get pretty heavy, but perhaps not enough gain for Metal methinks. I own a few analog pedals and have found many sounds in the Tonelab Le to be comparable and tonally sound.

The Tonelab Le also is very user-friendly and seems gig-worthy, the PC interface link for setting your sounds are simple too.

I don't know much about the Zoom G9 though, but you could scroll thru harmony central gear reviews to get the gist of the shortcomings about both multieffect pedals, to ease your decison making process.

For me, I enjoy the tonelab Le as compared to the digitech GNX series, the Gt8 and also the Line6 POD XTLIVE which i used to own. but it really depends on your preferences.

personally i'm using a pod x3l, i can say if you want the awesomeness of this pedal, less a few dozen extra amp models and dual modelling, go for an xt live, its abt $500 ish now i think

i've had the zoom g1, g2, g2.1u, all were above decent pedals, tonewise i i'd say they were abt 70-80%, dynamic wise they were a bit lacking, but all the modulations were very refreshing to play with

as for the tonelab, i can't say, but for korg, i'd prefer the zoom over the ax3000g, borrowed mi friends and tried tweakin it for an hour, couldnt get myself to get a sound i liked (might just be me)

I'm not sure about zoom but for tonelab hmm I have a Tonelab SE and it's damn good for english rock and blues and rock and roll u know those SRV kind of stuff yea it's good but if you play metal it sucks. For me I want to play instrumental rock now and well those heavy stuff it sucks but those not so much gain it's good. The thing is it has a tube inside so yea it sounds warmer than those without I suppose. I'm selling my pedal for $450. Because i want a boss GT 10

I used to have Zoom G9.2tt and it was simply awesome. Come to think about it, I really missed that baby. You cannot compare this multi-effects with other previous Zoom effects because this G9.tt uses two 12AX7 tubes while the rest do not. Other older Zoom effects are not the same with newer Zoom G Series.

I love the DS-1 effect that is present in this unit. It gives a warm tone and it drives more like analogue (natural) distortion than a digital one. Eventhough I cannot say the same thing about Vox Tonelab LE (never try it), but I believe it sounds just as good. Why? Because it also uses 12AX7 tubes. Others you might want to consider include Tonebone Radial Plexitube and other Tonebone pedals. These are all tube based pedals....

I have bought many multi effects pedals which do not have the tubes, and they sound bad (just my opinion). Distortion sounds so so digital and some even have that fuzzy tone. Better still, if you decide to buy the Zoom G9.2tt or Vox Tonelab, you can always swap these 12AX7 tubes with better quality ones and man, you will be on cloud nine...

hi!

at the moment i have nothing here in singapore. all my gear is in the philippines but i am eyeing to purchase an ibanez rg series guitar or maybe something from paul gilbert come payday (i'll be buying a guitar, effects and practice amp come this payday).

i used to play a lot of music when i was in college and sad to say after picking up a different hobby (mountainbiking!) and the lack of inspiration (bandmates who's as good as i am, during that time), i totally forgot about playing music.

in the philippines, i have a japanese made ibanez rg550 (got it around year 2000) and then i also have a korean made Aria pro 2 fullerton.

for effects, i have a zoom 3030 (that's why i know zoom is good but tone wise, its not warm-sounding but i think they've figured that out by putting analog tubes with the effects nowadays, hehe.).

for amplification, i have the fender de luxe 112 plus which is really LOUD! i also have a zoom drum machine to jam with and even the real thing, a pearl export series drum set with zildjian scimitar cymbals, and a DOD vocal effects processor all of which are gathering dust.

now, im sharing a house with my officemates who happens to play regularly during weekends as an opening act for famous bands from the philippines who come to singapore to perform at some local music bars like the arena, etc. i've been persuaded to join them coz they found out i sing pretty well (think aerosmith and bon jovi) and im good at playing the guitar to boot.

its good to know that you have the tone lab LE and that you've tried a lot of products. i appreciate your inputs. i was hoping i can get a lot of gain with this baby. the problem i had with my zoom 3030 back then is that it had a lot of gain but its not as warm sounding like the over drive on my fender amplifier so it really sucked. i would prefer something with warm tones than something with an overly, trying hard dirty gain so i think this is what i need but then again, the zoom g9.2tt has 2 tubes. maybe 2 tubes might be better than one. i'll go check it out.

but for the heck of it, once i get my paycheck, i'll go as soon as possible to music city and test both products to see which really suits my needs. i'll set my priorities on looking for the best sounding product. 2nd priority is functionality (i know the zoom g9.2tt wins in this category). 3rd is the price (hands down, the tone lab LE takes this spot). so it all boils down to who sounds better. i'll be updating this thread for my personal reviews and which product i chose.

and to all those who replied, thank you very much. i appreciate all your inputs and for those who'd like to add more comments, please do so.

A rather late input from me, but I sell away my POD XT Live because it just took too much time from me. I spent days and nights configuring my POD XT Live to get that ultimate tone in my dream, and I was never satisifed. So I was left with very little guitar practice/playing time. At the end, I decided to sell it away.

After reading this thread, I am thinking (again) to give chance to ToneLab LE... haha...

I think a good compromise wld be the Pod XT Live, its my current workhorse and i've never ever thought of replacing it, despite trying all the new multi-efx out there. The LE wld be my choice between the 2, the Zoom seems to have compatibility problems with some operating systems and there is a slight, but noticeable lag when changing patches. Also, having 12AX7 tubes does not automatically mean good, it still is a digital processor, but the tubes do go some way to help add chunk to the higher gain patches. Most multi-efx are better for lower gain stuff, they are star performers in that category, high gain is best left to pedals, IMHO. I'd recommend u go for either the XTL or LE.

Hello there!

u shld go for the zoom G9. i am using the G9 too. it is very good and can get great clean sound as well as warm-sounding and bright tone for ur soloing. it has 6-band equalizer and the pre-amp models are very good. the noise reduction also great. the great thing is also the 2 tubes in the G9. it really gives u the body for ur sound and the sound is very clear and transparent and warmth. u can also make a good recording becoz the G9 can be connected to ur computer USB for recording. the software (Cubase LE4) is quite easy to use and its given inside when u buy it. the cabinet simulation helps alot when recording.

the only thing negative about the zoom is its preset patches. it doesnt sound so good unless u tweak it a little. it will then able to burn up ur amplifier. hehehe.

I am not very sure about the vox. i have seen and heard its sound and it can also use for recording. but the zoom is much more apealling to me and it sounds good. :)

Yet another one who doesn't check the site to find out the distributor in Singapore. Are people getting lazier?
