Vox Lil Night Train or Marshall AVT20?

Hi guys!
Need to know which amp is better for me as this is my first time buying an amp~~
Bought my e.guitar 2 years ago, didn't touch it at all, so decided to start playing it now...
Most slightly i'll be playing a few different genres(e.g. Blues, Metal, Altn, etc...)
These two amps caught my attention in terms of PRICE, but i'm not very sure about the sound.
I don't dare to go down to music store to try it, no idea how to(don't know what to play when trying an amp)

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks~~~

Go with someone who knows? Going with someone or going alone, either way you need to get over being shy to try amps or anything else in a music store. Do it once and you'll be alright ;)

For a start, you can go on weekdays when there are less people. Check out the classified ads here, there are lots of good amps available based on your budget.

Thanks! Had to ask here because i do not have any friends playing e.guitar~ but i think i'm gonna get AVT20.

Lil Night Train over the AVT20 anytime. You're paying the same price for a FULLTUBE amp head versus a half tube combo and IMO the night train sounds better than the AVT

I would choose neither of it.

Lil night train might not be full tube. The description says full tube but when you read the specs, there are no power tubes, strange.....

It says, "all tube tone" but no el84, quite misleading.....

Look for a real tube amp, it's worth it. Once you get your first tube amp, you'll never look at another non-tube amp ever.

First, to answer cwjune's question, personally I'll recommend the AVT20, because to me it sounds much better than the lil night train.

Secondly, I feel disheartened reading the other replies, which promote tube snobbery, rather than addressing the tone issue.

It's not tube snobbery, it's more like personal preference. Ever since my first tube amp, more than 10 years ago, I can't turn back. We can say all we want, the choice is up to cwjune ultimately.

My main message is to go try it and decide for yourself. Maybe I should not give opinions on both amps because I've not tried them, I only play tube amps, I only try full tube amps.

cwjune, if you're reading this, I would suggest you go test the amps yourself but don't be in a hurry to buy, you might find better offers on the classified ads here.

I might be going city music in a few weeks time, if you can wanna go with me, you can pm me.

Saw from other online reviews, there is actually 1 power tube~~

I'd go with the Marshall because it's more versatile than the Lil Night Train, and the reverb on that Marshall is reportedly really good.

get a Vox Pathfinder. tube or no tube, pathfinder denies all boundaries. and only $120 at Sound Alchemy.

The Pathfinder does not serve cwjune's needs, it is just a very basic practice amp for clean and slightly overdriven playing. Furthermore, the reverb on the Pathfinder is very weak.

IMHO, cwjune has made a good choice to consider the Marshall AVT, and he/she just needs some comparison between the Marshall and the lil night train, so we should assist him/her in this direction instead of peppering the discussion with personal preferences which do not address cwjune's needs.

I can agree with the rest you said, but not the one in bold. you should do a search on who uses the pathfinder as a more than "basic-practice-amp", you'd be surprised, if you haven't of course. Other than that, i was just adding another variety other than the 2 amps he mentioned. I mean in the end who cares whether its a tube amp or not, if it sounds good, then buy it.

If you would like to try the lil' night train, i think the staff at City Music will help you out with that. They've been really helpful man.

Aw, com'on. If there's no EL84, EL34, 6L6, 6V6, KT88, etc, it's not a full tube amp? Why do ppl always assume so? They just pop a lower powered tube in the power section, that's all!
