Yes, modding wah pedals to make volume pedals are good but youll have to pay extra just for the wah? And what can one do when he needs both and volume?

Also, a sound check before the crowd gets in, is not accurate for setting your stage volume, because when the crowd does come in, they will more or less tend to over-power your sound-check set volume.Thus, the soundman(if there is one) will increase the volume of the whole band,and minor adjustments of volume thru the amps will have to be done on the fly using the vol. pedal.

How true! Sometimes even my boosted volume isnt good enough when the crowd is noisy...

Do also remember to get the right type for your type of guitar, passive or active.

Mines passive, what would you recommend?
 
Any vol pedal after active circuitry (low impedence output) get low impedence one, for example 25kohm.

Any vol pedal after passive circuitry (high impedence output, passive pickups basically) get a high impedence one, for example 250kohm.

Some pedals may be active circuitry but output a high impedence, but they are rare. Watch for them though.
 
bringing up an old thread.. so how do i know which to get? 25kohm or 25kohm? i donno if my circuitry is passive or active. my signal chain is strat->box of rock->Jnh->ce-2->dd-20. should volume pedals be put after drive pedals or should be be right at the end of the chain? what im looking for is something to put the the end.. like the FV-50L. im looking at the ernie ball VP Jr. but not which is right for me..
 
Check ur pickups, are they battery operated, if they are, it is an active pickup. Get the 25kOhm one. If it is passive get the 250kOhm one.

My experience is that if the volume pedal is placed straight after ur guitar u will experience some high losses even though passive pickup to passive EB.

What most people do is that they placed it after a buffer, for example boss pedals.. And u wun hear any loss there.

Placing it at the end may not be so good because u might want to let ur delay ring out but take out the signal that is coming from ur guitar. I place mine after my gain pedals but before my effects.

i use a proel volume pedal to control the swelling in of my ebow and to control the acute volume boost when i ebow near to the pickups. i also use it as a master volume control to reduce my overall volume when my keyboardist or bassist do their solos. i can also use the volume pedal to instantly cut off my guitar during certain songs that have abrupt endings.. or simply to tune in silence. can't do without it! :D

i'm not bothered much about the tone colouring because when playing live, many other factors can affect my overall sound. so not much difference. besides, pedals that colour tone, may well be the pedals that give you a unique sound that represents you. hehe. jus an optimistic view. :P
 
If you're going to put your volume pedal at the end, you'll be having it after your dd20. You'll want a low impedance one. The dd20 has a buffer, giving you an active input to your volume pedal.
 
I think putting a passive at the end doesnt make alot of difference..
Although i am not too sure.. cause right now i am running my passive EB after some boss pedals :D haven really A/B yet.. but i know if i were to put it infront of my board, they are noticable high losses.
 
Not only need to see whether your guitar is active or passive, need to see your signal too. If your VP is the last one in your chain, most likely the signal travelling through it is active, cause of buffers in some pedals.
 
b4 dirt u control gain, after that just controlling volume. Like gsonique mentioned. So wat u want it to do?
 
if u want to full around with the guitars vol knob in terms of getting those violin like sounds, if u just luv volume swells, y dun u get a byoc lazy sprocket?

if u want a different amount of boost for dif songs, like shredcow said just adjust ur boost for every song, and if u really have to have different boost vols within a single song, y dont u try a tonefactor copperhead? http://www.tonefactor.com/proddetail.php?prod=Copperhead

from what i see, u mainly want the vol pedal for the 2nd point (dif boost levels), in that case i personally think a vol pedal is not rly essential, esp when its gonna suck ur tone, its just not worth it, u can try a buffer but theres only so much it can do

Still feel the Visual Sound Volume pedal is the best.
with led indicators...
and still works without a powersupply ... as powersupply only powers the LEDs
 
Thats incorrect.

The visual volume has two modes. An active mode that switches on the buffer inside the pedal. It will not work without a battery or power supply in active mode.
 
i might just get a VS volume to replace my humongo bongo ernie ball 6166.

the LED's entice me. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

but the boss FV50 does the job reasonably well lah. as much as i feel EB volumes are still the stuff.

i just realised how contradictory this post is.
 
The best thing about the visual volume is the active mode. The buffer sounds really good. The led is just an icing on the cake.
