Vocals, Singers ......etcs

i feel its really important to have a good vocalist front the band. cos usually when i go for gigs i see bands which have good guitarists, drummers, bassists, keyboardists and songwriters. but it really goes down when the vocalist has no control, pitching and vibrato. i think thats wat sets the good bands apart. also the vocalist would have to relate to the crowd and if that isnt done then i think there isnt anything worth watching already, might as well just oust the vocals and make it an instrumental band.

i use to hv this xperience, sum vocalist tend to hv their ego gettin in e picture until ey think dat without em the band cant even get anywhere, i tell u guys, this is dangerous and not healthy to any band that wanna go far.

I think what Mamasita means is, don't make it seem like vocals are the only important thing in a band, much like the way boring cliched pop stars sing their songs now (It may be technically demanding, but the music as a whole is dull, uninspired and merely a vehicle for the vocalist to show off).

and welposeeko, there is no need to be so condescending. if i want to sing in an emocore band despite having jazz influences, what does that have to do with anything? vocals are equally important in all genres, and correct me if im wrong but there are heaps of jazz instrumental bands without vocalists, where a trumpter or a pianist brings ot the emotion of the song just as well, or better. you see how you all judge vocalists like that? i have come across musicians with attitude problems that play other instruments besides vocal chords. this was a thread about great vocalists, and it's turned into a discussion about ew-yuck-so-many-vocalists-have-disgusting-egos. all musicians are prone to complacency and have prima-donna tendencies, not just vocalists. vocalists are just as important as all the other musicians in a band, and if they are good it should be recognised, dont hesistate to talk about great vocalists because you dont want them to get big-headed. where a compliment is deserved, it should be given.
