Vocals, Singers ......etcs

hmm...
actually it all depends on wat the audience/listeners prefer...

a good singer is one that can sing n hold his tune well...
a vocalist is one that not only can sing but communicate well with the audience...
a performer is an all rounder who is especially good at entertaining the audience although he/she might lack in singing or communicating...

so for a live show,it all depends wat the audience want...
do they wana c a gd singer, vocalist or performer?

but of course, the best wud be a bit of all 3...
n hw the main frontman makes an impact for a band...

just my thoughts....
coz i've yet to reach any of those 3... :)

boon!! what happenedededed?? too much sexx druggs and lock and loll???

seriously... sexx druggs and lock and loll is a healthy thing.. long story la bro...

anyway,to me, a gd vocalist must....
-can sing (not like shouting,screaming)
-noes how to talk wif the crowd n entertain or talk wif em during breaks n such
-some1 who dun sing like a lamp post. showmanship, eye contact important

tis r a few 'items' needed for me... i cant thnik of the rest rite now.

gabriel_the_smart:doesnt need to sing well.

yo... sori,i dun reli support tis statement.i find it funny n of wat purpose do a vocalist who wanna be a vocalist doesnt need to sing well. if the band is gd and the vox is not, isnt it a waste?

my $3...

marlboro...
r u talkin abt DN's vocalist?
he's a gd performer...POWER!!!
btw,wen cn u teach me hw to play percussions?hehehe

grain...

alamak Jun...... I'm not up to standard lah to teach. Still struggling myself.

Anyways, Mr Grain himself is a good singer and performer. Still remember those days at Amphitheater whereby he sings Bon Jovi songs..... fooooooooh!...... Power!!!

well... dave from electrico is a great man.. zaki from peepshow isn't too bad as well.. i love WGB but i don't know if daphne fits the bill.. dharma's a better candidate...

isnt erik back?
the new power line-up is awesome!! :smt041
daphne doesnt really have a rock voice i guess. but she can sing for sure!

and as long as a vocalist has the vocal stylistics suitable for the band, can sing, and has passion for the part, i'd say you're all set. because seriously, the vocalist is the face of your band, and has to portray the personality and sound of your band through his/her voice+image. BIG responsibility.

i'd say ronin, bad obsession and the new WGB have that

I agree as well..
Unfortunately, I think gabriel might have been thinking of the pop scene in this instance.. Like Madonna, she only started taking vocal lessons and singing properly from her "Ray Of Light" album onwards.

I know a handful of people here who don't quite see a priority in good vocal qualities to make it big, which is really a sad mindset. Maybe it depends on the genre and scene? Whaddya guys think?

it IS a sad mindset! :D it can flop the band.

i dun reli think so bro... take for example SOAD. their genre or style. even if the vocals growls or sing or wat,do it nicely and gd.

is there such genre or scene or style or fashion tat requires a vox not to sing well? i doubt so.

got many2 gd local vox i admire.
fadly- x-tech
fadil- youthwreck
izaar- fatskunks
eerr... vox of electrico
vox of EIC

bla bla... i base tis on live performances. not recording. for levan, ronin. i dun reli find him great at all. sori to say, i dun like his singing. its not original and un-nice.

ok peace
my RM$1.25

What about pop? In some artist management conferences, they seem to be more concerned with how a singer looks; vocal requirements are met on a minimal or average importance.. I quote: "As long as they're not tone deaf, we'll be handling their (intensive) vocal trainings and tweakings," (audio-"photoshopping"). They even choreograph their vocal parts during live shows so that difficult vocal parts are covered up. 8O I think that's just going overboard and insulting to those who can sing but just lack the pretty face / physique. Again, I'm giving the example of an artist like Madonna, who, in the earlier days, had her pitchings all over the place.. :?

Personally, I have heard our local Jacintha Ab sing herself into jazz as well, and her jazz vocal qualities were average compared to the many others I've heard. She trained and trained along the way..

Vocalists fronting bands, however, are better off approaching the necessity of good vocal capabilities (besides the other necessary things like presence and such). I just haven't figured out why, though. What sets them apart from what's needed from a typical pop artist?.. Which was why I mentioned maybe it had something to do with the genre .. scene or something :?:

I would need to check these local band vocalists out one day. :D

That's like SGD0.50 only!
Cannot buy anything!!!

can buy lighter!!!

jesse_adams: u cant reli compare the 'artiste' or artist management or anitink like tat. we are talking abt here.

and a question, would u mind watching a band/performer/hot chicks who cant sing but choreograph well?
