curious

Hi just curious... why reply thru pm? why not post it here so all can share? Or issit bcos there'd be a charge for the reply so it must not be shared?

Well i got question! I been havin' fun with a group and we play old school rock skid row, firehouse, ratt........ exellent stuffs! I contribute as vocal, and we jam once a week. I need to know how to maintain OR recover fast the next day after the session. Its not like I got a sorethroat after that, its like I feel lack of power the next day if I sing.

I got a few "prescribtion", have not try them yet though, but I would like to find out more.

Any help? I'm not giving my VISA number. :D

i fully endorse Nin Jiom Pei Par Kao, available from any pharmacy
:) i drink, i smoke and i sing... it helps smooth things out, just a fat tablespoon before you sleep

Hey Dbell, i strongly recommend that you warm up before ur sessions. Dun even hafta go thru those long warmups..just talk more to ur jammates on ur way to the jamming centre..n mayb hum and sing some songs to urself on ur way to the jamming centre. That will warm up ur voice well.
During jamming, refrain from competing with your band. As a rock singer, when singing songs that require smoother tone, eg. coldplay, five for fighting..relax ur voice instead of straining to reach the note. when singing songs requiring a certain raw and husky quality eg. chris cornell..give the strain to ur voice by exerting a certain amount of stress on ur throat, but nonetheless continue to project from ur diaphragm. that will help keep ur voice intact at the end of the day.
And i strongly suggest not to smoke or drink, or for existing smokers and drinkers, to try to stop too. it just causes ur throat to contract totally and also causes poor breathing habits when singing. So refraining from these would help ur singing and improve ur health! :)

p.s. i agree that the pro rock singing tips should be posted here..it would be great to hear from you. :)

is there any healthy tips to maintain a good voice other than drink more plain water or like refrain frm eating hot stuff?

anyone got any advice to share?

going for a nice good run/jog once in a while would help. Or u can try honey water (old wive's tale).

also try to hum and sing everyday if possible.

I second that "no coffee" suggestion :) I find kopi is not as bad as kopi-o, and that kopitiam style coffee is not as bad as coffee bean style coffee. Not sure why.

No,the suggestion r pretty fine... most importantly is warm up and drink plenty of water plus exercise to improve breath support

Vocal lessons are just another bull-shit! If you can sing, it means you can sing. If you can't, take it in good faith that you're not meant to be a singer. Most well known singers are self taught or probably born for that talent.

Name me one singer who goes for vocal lesson and make it big! Yes, the might have made it but, probably land at some sleazy joints.

People normally start up at music lesson, like learning to play a musical instruments. You'll learn more about harmonising on your own as these are just basic fundamentals about music. Appreciating music the right way can improve your singing while listening to some good singers about how the voice is being controlled. Can imitate at one point but you'll know later that you have your own quality voice if you're made to sing.

Tetragrammaton

Well, everyone can sing but everyone also have a degree of potential in singing.Vocal lessons are to help singers to polish up their singing and allow them to sing with right techniques so they won't suffer from vocal dieases.Bad vocal techniques will lead to vocal dieases which may need surgery. Therefore it is vital for any vocal performer to noe the basic of vocal techniques.Anyway u think those american idols r purely talents? They talented but they also do have some vocal background. Check out this website : This is not for advertising but to allow ppl to understand slightly more about singing

I do not deny that some ppl can self taught but there r things which cannot be taught by oneself and needs guidance.Even if u can sing ur range, technique, tone of voice may not be proper...Anyway i agree that music be it in instrumental or vocal all have direct links.

Anyway those stars that made it big r becos they were "found" by music companies to have slightly more exceptional potential then others but need a lil polish in vocal. In the industry it requires a whole package to make it big... so anyway these stars also have to undergo vocal training
