Vocal endurance-Need help

Hello. I'm in an alternative rock band. I play the bass and sing. Currently..Now i have a problem with my singing. During the jam sessions, my voice seems to get tired after a few songs..
.I mean real tired till it sometimes goes out of tune.
Any tips or solutions?.
Solutions are better though. i read in other forums that turning up the mike louder will help? cause i dont need to sing too loud as i can be heard already. I wonder how bands that play in concerts lasting for hours maintain their voice perfectly.

Best choice for u is to get a good vocal teacher who can point out the mistakes in your technique. Vocal is one thing that has to be heard to teach. Learning vocals from reading in forums is pointless really, and everyone has something different to say when it comes to it.

Hi there....im a guiitarist and vocalist....been jamming for 2 hours....but i dun lose my voice easily....i guess this is a genes or sumtin related to it....but i saw a bottle of liquid.....it's like a spay  its called clear throat....i duunoe where to get it though....how bout trying some chinese medicine....ask those old folks for help...maybe they can lend a hand

Listen to lppier.. those pros you see who sing for hours without trouble have all done vocal training, and know how to sing in a way that doesn't stress their vocal mechanism.

A lot of actors and politicians have gone for vocal training too, for the same reason. They have to talk all day without getting tired, and that needs good technique.

ouh...ic...my band plays alternative rock...So my vox needs to be powerful and must be loud...tts the hard part. and i see all those bands like blink 182, nirvana, the killers etc...play their concerts smoothly...so cool. i guess i shld practice. practice makes perfect!

More than just practice.. practicing bad technique will get you a refined bad technique :)

If you can afford it, vocal training is the way to go. If you can't, then just make sure you don't stress yourself. If you feel tired or start feeling pain, stop and take a break.

When singing your upper chest should be relaxed, your throat should be relaxed, your jaw and tongue should be relaxed (though your tongue will move around quite a bit to make vowels).

The only tension should be your vocal chords (low down in the throat, NOT your outer throat muscles), your diaphragm (lower chest) and your soft palete should be lifted up (that's the area that raises when you yawn).

What part of your body feels tired when you've sung too long? For me it was my throat, because I was tensing those muscles unnecessarily. That tension actually prevented me from singing properly.

yeap. just make sure you breathe properly and use the proper body parts to sing and you probably wouldn't feel tired out

For me jamming with a band requires alot of diaphragm work. Alot of projection and solid diaphragm support is required if not the band easily drowns you out, even with a mic. Good diaphragm support makes the voice loud and clear. Singing with softer music allows more use of the throat which allows more versatile voice but less volume and projection. However singing with the throat alone can't get you far. You have to practice both.

Breath deep every time you start so that you have enough 'juice' to last you through until the next breath. You need to imagine the air going all the way down into your stomach and push it out when u breath.

But most importantly your band has to be understanding to your way of singing and adjust the way they play. I once sang with this ass of a drummer who kept slamming the drumset and going out of rhythm while not giving a damn about me. Not being able to hear yourself makes you go out of tune easily. Thats why singers always have earphones on stage to let them hear themselves.

Hi

Did you warm up your vocals? It's important to warm up your vocals before every jam. That way, your vocals will not get too tense and tired easily. One of the easiest way to warm up your vocals is to hum your voice with your mouth closed.

Warming up your voice will not hurt your cords, but aid in increasing your keys. Of course, the diaphragm exercises are also necessary to ensure that you project your voice properly. If we are not too careful, we would tend to put too much tension to our vocal cords.

Try it out.

Hmm.

In addition to the above, my trick is to have a mint in the mouth and to drink loads of water. Re-hydrating yourself is very important especially when you need to use both your throat and diaphragm while singing.

I agree with Crawldaddy. You definitely needs lots and lots of water. Try not to take too much stuff that affects your voice. Examples like chilli, too much tobacco, chocolate, coffee, tea, etc.

Lemon honey helps.... Take good care of your voice.

i don't see this as a vocal technicality issue since you didn't mention any problem with your voice, just that you get tired more easily.
so i have only one suggestion from the downright basic basically basisack...

have you been getting enough rest and sleep lately?
cos if you haven't then there you go; catch a couple more winks and rest your body proper and you'll be alright.

techniques and body parts and hydration of the cords and honey lemon aside, it's important to remember that when you sing, your whole body is the instrument, not only your mouth and throat and nose and whatnot. if it ain't rested, it'll pull your voice down cos the muscles isn't rested, your body's basically a lump of lifelessness straining to keep conscious enough to hold your muscle, diaphragm, mouth, lips, face, butt, air intake and support into a decent note.

I wonder how bands that play in concerts lasting for hours maintain their voice perfectly.

varied between races(genes, tolerance) recuperation time, and genres (alternative bands usually get drunk to help them relax but)
they sleep a whole 8hrs the night before; have a hearty breakfast, relax (in whatever way they want), warm up. no hangovers, sufficient sleep, enough rests in between. body preperation first; then comes the warmups and vocal maintainance.

the key is getting enough rest, a lot of people neglect that i donno why... personally i couldn't sing shit when i'm tired... i'll get tired by the end of the first or second song, and pitchy all over, pretty much like your issue over there.

basically if you're tired, nothing you do to anything connected to your voice is gonna help improve things. so go sleep go go, gnite zzz.
