is it possible to use electric guitar strings on an acoustic folk guitar? someone told me by doing so there will be less tension and hence less chance of neck warp...or something like that...

You can. From my experience (worked at an acoustic guitar shop in excelsior), I've never seen a guitar had a warped neck due to string tension. It's always due to humidity. So spare yourself some pain, buy a good set of acoustic strings and play on! :smt001

oh ic...thx..cos i have an ancient yamaha fg-330. The neck its warped. Its my uncles, kept in a bag for like 10+ years...lol...with the strings on and everything...im looking to straighten back the neck by tightening the truss rod. Just worried if string tension would cause the same thing to happen...

i suppose over a long period of time n u don't touch the guitar at all, that will happend. thats why u should always unwind the strings if u r not gonna play it for a long time.

i have an ancient acoustic guitar that sounds terrible with acoustic strings but really shines with old electric strings. strange but true. sounds great, who cares. plus i never have to buy acoustic strings, i just transplant old ones from my electrics.
