using effects loop for other than effects

i was thinking, is it possible to like, use the send jack of the effects loop (in amps) to send to, eg, monitors, or power amps (the goal being to use the preamp in the amp). and how abt using the return jack instead of input jack (the goal being to bypass preamp section. maybe can be like guitar -> effects pedals -> return jack of amp.)

just some weird ideas.. but it -should- be alright, right? haha..

nah i think it'd work, but i dunno abt the stuff like whether there is a loss of tone and stuff.

This is perfectly safe; I've done it a few times already and my amp hasn't blown up...
