Hmms... Anyone know the price of a new or 2nd hand Fender Tele?

And Whats all the fuss with Teles with humbuckers... isnt the classic single coils gd?

Thanks for the help!

mexican? US? you have any particular model in mind?

i'm not aware of the humbucking tele hype, although mine is souped up with one, but it's question of needs.

Is the humbucker the bridge PU, the neck PU or both?

My 2 cents are that if you're playing a tele, keep the bridge PU as a tele SC. The ferrous nature of the tele bridge and the way the pickup is normally overwound contributes significantly to the aggressive/ballsy tone.

SCs, P90s or Humbuckers in the neck are equally nice depending on what you're going for.

There really isn't a right or wrong reply to your question given that whilst the traditional tele pickup config is an established standard, there are a number of mods which build upon the versatility of the instrument.

In addition to including a humbucker on a tele, other versatility mods include:

(a) replacing the tele neck PU with a strat PU
(b) incorporating a middle PU
(c) replacing the 3 way switch with a 4 way or 5 way switch
(d) incorporating a B-bender
(f) different wiring configurations .... see attached link for mod ideas http://archive.guitarplayer.com/archive/gear/hrm4.shtml

for Mex models, the Tele Std can be had for slightly more than $1K. however, at $1.3K (List) you can get a Highway1 tele (US)... 8)

Hey subversion, you saying 1k for a MIM tele? Is that the list price at swee lee or after discount already?

I was in KL a few days back, a shop there selling MIM tele (olympic white with maple fretboard) for 1750RM, which is about 760SGD...

U think it's cheaper than here in SG?

And the MIM strat in KL was about 1800RM, close to 780SGD.

it's strictly list, it definitely goes for much lesser, sorry i'm obliged not to reveal discounted prices...

there are too many mex Fenders to list, the current models goes for much more than the older ones, definitely. if you can specify which Fender you saw there (which specific model), it'll help...

ICIC.. thx for the help!... hmmm.. question again (i'm a newb  )... isnt it more worthwhile to get a mex tele std rather than a highway 1 US which is made of lousier materials? i dun think the mex quality is far off from the US versions.. how bout a US tele list price??

HEHE ... sry for the trouble .. thnx a lot

there's always this misconception that the Highway1 is a dud guitar- it's not. (lousier materials? hmm... where did you read that from?) the H1 guitars are american with non-american hardware & electronics. in fact, the neck of the H1 guitars are actually initial left-overs of the now superseded American Standard models.

the finish is a love/ hate affair as it lacks the final 'gloss' lacquer, Fender calls it a 'satin' coating (thin acrylic lacquer actually), very thin material, dings easily. the idea came off the original Rory Gallagher/ SRV guitars (among others) which sounded very resonant because the bodies were virtually worn down to the bare wood. many people dismiss the H1 series because of the quirky finish, sadly they also equate this as being 'lousy'...

the philosophy behind the H1 series is summed up aptly as: Everything you need, nothing you don't. while the H1 series are good guitars per se, they're still a notch below what the American Series has to offer.

coming back to the Mex models- there's no doubt that these are proving their worth today. i'm not too keen on the Standard, i'm more into the Classic series which are fantastic replica of the bygone-era Fenders (the '70s reissue gets my thumbs up, way up!!)

at the end of the day, you choose, we are here merely to recommend 8)

US tele: American Series $1,600+ (approx)

Hey subversion, the Classic series is made in Mexico? i love the 70s one too man! roughly how much man?

The shop is in the Bukit Bintang area: Bentley Music or something like that... quite a big shop, occupies 2 units. It's opposite the Planet Hollywood restaurant.

:)

last thing i heard from luther they had sky blue and candy apple red MIJ strats at 790 .... but the colors arent exactly my choice so i decided not to get them ....

Hmm. anyone know where to get jap fenders?

yea all this talk about mexican fenders! not that i have anything against them haha just came back from japan, tried looking for local made teles but couldn't find any of 'em. but if i had, wouldn't make much diff, the guitars there are mostly around the same price(even if they're 'made in japan'!).

local fender distributors stock relatively lesser 'made in japan' teles/strats don't they? still looking out for the blackout tele
