5 years in the making, this is the 3rd album for Ugly in the Morning, and it is jam packed with funk rhythms, searing guitars, tight vocal harmonies and earworm melodies.
Formed in 1999, the alternative funk/rock band has gone through a number of changes with their line up over the years; the newest additions to the band being Joseph Saleem and Pam Oei.
Pam Oei, one third of the popular cabaret trio Dim Sum Dollies and a veteran in the Singapore theatre scene, sheds her thespian persona to lead the vocals in her first album with the Uglies.
Pulling out all the stops, Ugly in the Morning has recruited the renowned and widely respected “Godfather of Sound” Shah Tahir to engineer for them at the launch concert. Award-winning multimedia artist Brian Gothong Tan will also lend to the atmosphere with a carefully designed visual scape.
Ugly in the Morning’s music has always featured vocal harmonies but for the launch, they have added 2 powerful backup singers – Audrey Luo and Candice de Rozario – to the mix. With 5 vocalists onstage in total (1 lead, 4
backups), this will be no ordinary rock concert. We are proud to announce that audio specialist, Sennheiser has come on board as our partners for the launch.
Popular guitar-playing duo Jack & Rai will open for Ugly in the Morning with a rare set of all-original songs. Jack & Rai are also partners with Sennheiser.
The 10-song album “3 or More If You Can Afford It” contains diverse themes - from the Little India riots (Riot City – written for Singaporean movie “Unlucky Plaza”) to LGBT pride (You Can’t Touch Me Now) and even a song
written in memory of the late actress Emma Yong (Emma Dreaming).
Wielding actual musical instruments with no auto-tune machine in sight, this old school, non-millennial rock band promises to blow the roof off the Esplanade Annexe Studio on 14th April!
