Tung Oil or Lemon Oil

i think tung oil is juz for making the wood looks nicer whereas lemon oil is to moisturize the wood? correct me if im wrong..

Tung oil is a finish. It's not for moisturing ur fingerboard. With sufficient coats, it will seal the wood. It would give the wood a different feel and look. If u just wanna maintain the rosewood in it's unfinished state, dun use a sealing finish like tung oil.

it's seems that there's too much thread on maintainence, scroll down and you see one about tung oil. scroll 3 pages back and you can see the maintainence thread. why don't we just go back to the maintainence thread. it's got more information there

Most commercial lemon oil actually produces a drying effect if use in a substantial quantity. So be careful about it.

question. if I have a decal on my neck that can easily be scratched away, can I use Tung Oil to protect it? if not, what oil would you guys recommend? thanks for the help :)

Use Tung Oil for maintainence, lemon oil to clean. Lemon oil will dry the rosewood, it your wood looks pale its probably too dry. It might crack and push your frets out.

the problem is, my neck isnt lacquered. is there any oil that I could use to protect the decal & keep the original finish of the neck?

thanks in advance :)

1st time i'm hearing lemon oil drys wood... huh? :?:

Yes. The commercial ones sometimes have that effect. Stay far far away from lemon oil products with silicon in them. They will stay on your guitar forever and just keeps building up. Nothing sticks to them either meaning if you try to finish over silicon it will spread apart away from the silicon spots.

Rosewood is naturally a very oily wood. Oil it very sparingly. And use an oil made for this purpose to be safe. Quite a few guitar companies have these.

There's also a difference between cleaning solutions and moisturising ones, so be aware of what you are rubbing into your fretboard.

okay... i use the D'Andrea Lemon Oil... its a "Cleaner & Conditioner"

is it safe? it doesn't say what substence it contains cept Petroleum Distilates

That's what it is. Just a petroleum product with citrus scent. It doesn't come from lemons

i know my maple fret board is coated with satin finish...

i wanna clean grime and dirt off the fret board... is it advisible to use my D'Andrea Lemon Oil on it? would the oil damage the satin coat??

reason for thinking of using it is cuz 1) i have it and dun know of any other fretboard with finish cleaners, 2) it says it is a "cleaner" and i need a solvent for the cleaning anyway

Im using the same lemon oil as u though. The D'andrea. But have not tested it on maple fretboard.

Just one question,
What oil do u guys reccomend to clean clean up my guitar body on my RG321MH?
