Do tube simulation amps provide the same tone a real tube amp would?

Hmm.

What kind of application are you using an amp for? home / jamming / gig / wanking around use?

Different amps suit their intended use.

So maybe you could outline what your intentions are. :)

Tone yes, feel no. IMO. Sims are value for money only if you can't tell or can live with the difference.

Call me bigotted, but that's a firm, definite 'no'.. Current simulation technology simply cannot produce the exact output of a real tube amp..

Without entering the realm of tech talk, they just don't sound the same.. Trust your ears..

Depends. I could in theory build a shitty tube amp from the "best" parts in the world.

Fact is most of the boutique tube amp makers have a lot of pride in their work, and most tube simulation products are mass manufactured items which many corporations are obsessed with revenues. And some companies that want to market tube amps as the better superior product.

simulations will never attain the real tube character. however, there are very convincing modules out there, if these can satiate your wants, it's a sensible move.

My purpose 4 an amp like that:
1. Practice
2. Jamming

I would need an amp versatile enuf 4 those and maybe some gigging too. Any recommendations? I'm looking at the Fender Pro Junior 15w amp. Any comments...........? Or shld i get a bigger amp? Thx 4 the advice.

btw, if ur asking why i'm looking 4 a tube amp when i have a 3k half-stack, its bcos i got cash flow problems......selling off my half-stack. But my heart will always go to my Thermion...its 1 heck of an amp. Any1 interested????

Just in my opinion, correct me if i'm wrong:

For an amp like that, a 10" or 12" speaker amp would help in bringing out the bass frequencies that are usually lost in the 8" speakers. Weight is a consideration if you're bringing it out often enough - amps tend to be heavy. A 1x10 or 1x12 combo if you want the whole thing, and a head if you can plug to speakers elsewhere.

For tube amp wattage, often they're loud enough for practice and jamming. (Sometimes too loud, especially if you're looking to crank it for tube power amp distortion). Solid-states usually are linear in volume on the other hand.

Gig-wise depends on location. If miking up is ok, I don't think there's a problem whether you use an amp with less or more wattage. There're very few tube amps which accommodate practice and gig volumes with the same quality of tone though. (In any case, the human hearing prefers louder volume given all else equals.)

I think perhaps you should state your budget and your tonal preferences first.

Anyway I have a tube amp head that costs around 1+K after shipping, not selling it, but if you're interested, you can come over to try, see if it fits your needs. PM me.

ur poll question is too specific, if everyone could choose and has the ability to they will definitely go for the real thing.

tubes are the thing :)

personally a 30watter tube amp is a good balance for gigging use and jamming. its loud for home use but then at home for practice tone not tt big an issue just roll down the vol.

Dude, no lah.

Consider selling off the cab or anything else.

How many times have we regretted selling off things we liked but out of circumstances, had to sell off?

Since you already own a Thermion, I don't see how you can revert back to those hybrid or modelled amps. I transited from a SS to a hybrid and now finally a full tube amp and I have to say that although my little tube amp has the lowest wattage among the 3, it sounds the best. I know that I can't make myself go back.. but then maybe because the SS and hybrid amps just ain't great amps to start with. :)

i was always wondering... since weight is the problem, why are they no tube amp heads below like, 50 watts?

like 10 watts, 15 watts or 20 watts head? then sell parallel cabs that have 12 " speakers so that itt'll allow one to carry the head in 1 hand and the cab in the other? haha

just a though... could be costs and all but i see the convenience in that

There are, but rarely found in shops in Singapore. Look around online, you will see them.

Btw wattage does not correlate to weight.

There is no comparison between solidstate tone and real full tube tone (good tube amps I mean).

But good solid state tone is all good too.

Different stuff for different taste for different people. You meat may be my poison.
