Tube Combo Amps

So I have embarked on a mission to upgrade from my Pathfinder 15R.

The amps I have considered thus far are:

Egnater Rebel 20
Peavey Classic 30
Fender HRD
Laney VC30 112
Vox Night Train
Orange Tiny Terror (Half-stack/Combo)
Marshall Haze 40W Combo

Opinions anyone?

I don't need any amp dirt so my main requirement is a sparkling clean tone.

Fender Blues Junior or Pro Junior should also be serious contenders considering your need for clean tone.

Fender Princeton is also a good choice.

if you're gonna get a HRD would you get it from swee lee? but i'd say yea one of the fenders hot rod amps would do just fine.

the marshall haze mini stack breaks up very early. i dont know about the combo. anyway, im using the same current as you and thinking of upgrading too.

though on my list i only have vox ad4tv and egnater rebel 20 with their built in attuenator as i want the sparkling cleans though i may want the little tube crunch/od for some "bluesy" playing. havent tried the egnater myself though. and i heard the only local distributor for egnater doesnt bring them in anymore. huhu

Seems like you're willing to move into the $1000 price range.

In this price range, I think you'd do well to check out the Bogner Alchemist range at City Music. I find it a very versatile amp, especially for the price. Nice glassy clean sounds available; heavy crunch sounds are definitely on tap too... But I love the "in-between", almost-breaking-up sounds the most on this amp...

You can check out the demos on the Bogner Webbie...

Yeah, Sinamex still stocks Egnater Rebels. They are 1.8K or so for the half-stack.

The problem with amps imported from overseas is the voltage (I don't fancy lugging a transformer around).

Swee Lee's prices for the Hot Rod amps are suprisingly decent:
HRD: $1560
Blues Jr: $1080
Pro Jr: $800

I wanted the Peavey Classic 30 but they don't bring it in. Sigh.

One vote for the Tiny Terror

My two cents:

The Orange Tiny Terror is very clean. As long as you don't get the gain past 1230 you can turn the volume up and get loads of warm, clean tone.

Since you named it I'm sure you have an idea of the price.

The 7/15 watt switchable power is very attractive and usable. It's loud enough for a small club and gets soft enough for playing at night.

Turn up the gain and you get lots of nice harmonics overloading. When your guitar is in tune it sounds amazing with all these frequencies feeding each other.

Hmm. I thought i saw one at Sinamex the other day! Haha.

hey thanks! my bad, the pm i got was from soundwaves. they had a thread somewhere where they said they distributed egnater, in which i replied, after which they pm-ed me that they dont stock them anymore.

i better check out sinamex then! kind soul wanna tell me the price of the egnater rebel 20, so i dont have to go there and see the price out of budget. heheehe

ohyeah TS(thread starter & tubescreamer. lol), have u checked out the vox ad4tv? first shipment at city music sold out withing 2 weeks i think. 2nd shipment due on july have all been pre-ordered. very affordable equipped with celestion 10", built in attuenator.

Egnater Rebel half-stack is 1.7-1.8 k or thereabouts.

wasabe19: Which showroom was this?

Ok people, I just called Swee Lee up. There's a promotion now for Fender amps, and the prices are as follows:

Pro Jr - $700+
Blues Jr - $900+
HRD - $1365

wasabe19: I believe your friend's quote was for the Pro Jr :)

any considerations for the Champion 600?

Thanks for the recommendation subversion, but I need a 12" speaker at least :)

Nice CV Duosonic btw, I've had many good deals with Brendon before. Got my Strat and Tele from him.

ohh i guess it was too good to be true to get a BJ for 735 hah! i've not tried a HRD but heard only good things about it. maybe you should check out blues jrs from ebay might get one for less. i can just change the ouput transformer to convert it to 220v right?
