Tube Amps

what especially about these amps do u like though? =D keep the input coming!!! thanks so much!
the warm vintage tone and affordable price.

However 1 thing I do not like about it is that it has no standby switch. :(

i love my 5150 when im using a EMG 85 at the bridge and chugging away... very tight and heavy dist.. can be smooth for those santana type tones...

but when im on my strat.. i love my neighbours twin reverb. fender amps really make cleans come to life.

is it possible to have a standby switch modded into the amp, by say a tube amp specialist like mikemann?

Modern tube amps use solid state diode rectifier for it's power, which is almost instantanous high voltage rushing at the tube plates before it gets hot enough for the electrons to flow. This effect causes premature plate stripping, which reduces lifespan of the tubes.

A standby switch is there for this preventive purpose, but it must be used properly to be effective. I know a lot of tube amp owners who don't practise good standby habit. Which is to turn on power for about 1/2 to 1 min before flipping the standby switch on.

Some small wattage full tube amps do not have this standby switch. It can be modded in, but holes will have to be drilled and rewiring done.

Vintage design which uses tube retifier are little affected by this phenomenum, as the rectifier also needs to warm up, causing a delay. But a standby is still good to prolong the rectifier tube life too.

thanks for the PM, mikemann!

somemore questions people, sorry for the bother!

1.) how much does the Vox cost?
2.) how much does the peavey cost?
3.) how much does a THD hot plate cost?

thanks!

I dont think the peavey classic 30 is available off the shelf locally, most of the time u only can find them used or unless u bring em in specially.

U can try the carvin tube combo at ranking. I was there yesterday and the price seems rather reasonable. If they dont have it, they can order for u. A close sales price on the amps r the price on the US site X2. Thats inclusive of the shipping n all.

The vintage series amps looks just sweet. I saw one 16w one gg for 800+. What type of amp u looking for? Clean with lots of headroom, or tube overdrive?

I asked Sweelee before. $1150 for the Peavey Classic 30 , on special order coz they don't bring in the amp. Much too ex for me.

Pier.

geez... the Vox AC30 CC2 with the 2 x 12 speakers are $3700... 8O

that hurts bad.... looks like it's either the peavey classic 30 ($1150) or maybe the Reverend Goblin ($1200).

I also found a secondhand blues junior ($700) and a secondhand Hot Rod Deville ($990)....

I would go for either the classic 30 or reverend goblin for versatility (btw isnt the goblin out of production ? Reverend has stop their amp section already)
