true or false?

many people told me that a good guitar will easily give out sound when you juz press on the fret . is this true? or is it juz due to the pickup?

ermm....i'm kinda baffled too. From what you've provided, and with the guitar plugged in...i suppose it means the pickup?

i think my friends mean finger tapping. say like paul gilbert, when he plays those crazy songs like scarified, he mostly juz hammer on and pulloff right? picking every note is quite scary.
for my guitar , i nid to press damn hard for a little sound to come out. and the sound fades very quickly. do you get me? im not very good at explaining! lol

it depends on ur amp settings too... the kind of distortion... but pickus play a great role in this too

so its here and there... as for "good guitar"... well... wood plays only a small part in the tapping business, but some wood generally sustain better then certain types.. although not as large a factor as amp settings and pickups (type, height ect)

take the X2N for example... i think i read somewhere... just a slight tap the sound comes out quite clear... maybe its high sensitivity due to high output? not very sure...

I think for tapping, or hammer on or pulloffs, its more of your technique than the guitar, then again, same goes for everything else. Agood/well setup guitar just makes things easier, low action jumbo frets etc etc

anyway, I'll take alternate picking over hammer ons and pulloffs anyday, legato u call it? haha

Its more than that. And I can tell you that gain doesn't play a huge part.

Its first, technique. Then guitar physical setup. Then amp/pups.

Look at Richie Kotzen. His legato is ridiculous and what does he use? A Fender Tele and a Cornford Tube Amp. Lots of gain? No.

That monster! He burned me on that Burn cover.....the legato is to be died for. And as important as any other techniques, it adds a refined style of playing to your arsenal.

finrod: now i see what you're getting at. Definitely has to be techniques...with or without the gain, it can be heard no matter the pickups though a well setup will facilitate easier execution of it.

Edo, I think I'm going to go legato... haha... I'm just as frustrated about the lack of progress in alternate picking! :)

haha daniel, but you forgot he has a humbucker in his tele, chopper T, though its more medium output than high. I have both richie kotzen mr.big albums and his guitar playing kicks ass, he has a softer attack than paul gilbert but his legato lines are so fluid and his tone is so psychedelic, puts me in a daze..

Aye Dude... you are right... ;) THe chopper sounds really sweet...

I listened to one of his old fusion stuff and its like legato pentatonics... 3 notes per string kind of patterns... amazing!

from vertu? you dl or buy album haha..oh the 3 note per string super stretches? hmm..sounds like paul only he alt picks them ha..
