Travis Barker. The best punk rock drummer?

the only problem i have with travis is that most kids these days don't see past him. they think drums end with him. he's not the best, but he's probably the most innovative one in his genre... but most kids don't see the clave or the funk at all. of course this is from my own experience with barker fans, not the gospel...

another issue is that he kinda encourages excessive heavy hitting... to the point whereby one can injure himself just for the sake of looking cool. his own arm is shot to hell and he's STILL whacking the hell out of those drums.

welllll i'm glad its not gospel.
they most prob dun see it....yet

as for the hands yah he is hitting too hard and kiddies will follow, its a trade off. get them to listen to keith carlock or thomas lang then. bet u it gets boring after awhile.

barker is accessible and fun, brings them into the world of drumming so as they mature they can appreciate the carlock's and chamber's of the drumming world. but of course this isn't gospel

kid... u rly need to check out other drummers as well... what he can do really nothing so special compared to other top drummers. open up your mind kids.. search for this name on youtube and u will know what am i saying...

Dennis Chambers, Carter Beauford, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckle, Vinnie Coluita, Steve Smith, Benny Greb, and many others.

I tried searching for the last guy... "and many others" but i couldnt find anything

on a serious note though... yeh i use to think travis was THE drummer but after opening up to other genre's of music i think that there are many others out there who are better (not to say travis sucks ! hes still great)

like Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater.. hes awesome !

Oni if u guys know about drums then you wud say he;s the best. To me.. double paddles and loud noisy drums does not show one is the best but the strokes... creativity.. and skills that travis has can only match the drummers that was playing in the best militiary bands in the world.

He's simply the best.. nobody can ever beat him.. not even joey jordison or anyone else.. maybe those cool drummers from the militiary bands in US.

Sigh. Why does every drumming forum I go to have such topics and replies..

Simple put, Travis is neither the best, nor the worst drummer for his genre of music. He's a very gifted SESSION drummer - hell Avril got him to session for a single song on her album, and ended up hiring him for 3-4 more songs, and if i'm not mistaken he does sessions for other people as well. He's a very energetic drummer, and he has a knack for being able to make a simple blink song sound very catchy and amazing with his drumming.

But he's not the best, nor is he the most creative drummer around. True, he admitted on an interview that he had jazz and latin background when he was younger, and that he doesn't see himself a pure punk drummer of sorts, but his creativity is only so limited, and there are tons of more creative drummers out there.

He's not the worst drummer too, just very overrated.

You might want to change your statement.... or you'll get tons of youtube links showing you other drummers who WILL indeed, hand travis his ass on a silver platter.

Refer to above mentioned reply.

I like him. Thats all that matters to me =) and it should be the same for all drummers. If you like them good for you, let them inspire you and you can get ideas from them. There are so many professional drummers, so many to like and learn from, ultimately it's just what you want.

Wow. It's nice to see a Travis Barker thread. I'm a blink fan, so I like his drumming. He is one of the best drummer to me.

Oh yeah, there is this one video I would to show. With Travis Barker drumming, he really make a song sound damn nice. Heard of Crank That by Soulja Boy? Well, he make a remix of it. And I bet you will like it.

People who say that Travis Barker sucks are very wrong i think. Sure he may not be the "best" drummer in the world (which is already so subjective) but he is definitely one of the pioneers of punk rock drumming and he did an excellent job in it. Whether u like him or not, he influenced SO MANY other talented drummers to pick up drumming. That in itself makes him great. I dont think he is the best drummer in the world as punk rock isnt the hardest genre on earth and there are so many other genres but I feel he should at least be given credit as one of the drumming greats ever.

IMO, there's no such thing as best. You can be one of the best but no one can be the best.

Travis Barker is definitely right up there. Along with Derrick Plourde (R.I.P) and many others.
