Tragic News.sss - Johan The Cymbal-Master had Pass-Away 8.7.2008... Pls Read !

Wow.www Johan my Bro, oh my goodness, you're really here at Soft. It's our great honour and priviledge and a warmest welcome to Soft Music Forum & Drum Xchange Singapore here.

PS: I knew you are a great CymbalMaker, but I didn't know (till today) that you are also an Awesome.eee Drummer. I am greatly impressed. The Solo was simply amazing Bro, I love it.

Bro Johan, if you could assist us further here.

(1) Could you post a picture of the Anvil you are using here (the Square Head type), and

(2) The (Round Head Type) that is grinded to a Convex Shape at the edge.

so that I could bring this pictures to my Father-In-Law (who Owns a HardWare Shop that Customs Ships Spare Parts at their Factory) to customise 2 Anvils for us here for now as a 1st-step towards Hammering & ReCreating Cymbals?.

(3) Do you also have Pictures of the Lathering Machine you used for Cymbals Recreation. I think it's not a very Large-One right, cause those at the Factory are Super-Large and we can't put that at DXS Worshop (which will be at our New Home) next year 2008....please help

(4) What about the Hammer? (Any Hammer will do? or is it not?)

(5) Is there any specific Hammering Patterns or Basic Rules to follows ?

Thanks so much Bro Johan and ...Pheww.wwww so glad to have you share your expertise here with us, and Thanks A Million !

I'm sure everyone is equally very excited here ! yeah Bros/Sis.... 3 Cheers to Johan !

Warmest Regards

Eric Wong

Yes yes ...

Bro Johan will be our GrandMaster for Soft's "Drum Xchange Singapore" in the area of "Hammering and Re-Creating Cymbals" - - - So that we can now all learn to appreciate & Enjoy The Beautiful ART Of Rejunvenating Cymbals here in Singapore and that CSI Workshop (to be headed by Bro DH) will oneday be a Monthly Event / Activity as in our current Monthly Drummers Meetup.

This is really going to be one of the most exciting activity all DXS Members can look up to by 2008.

PS: like what Bro plainsman mentioned - If you're here Johan oneday to Singapore, we will all be there to meet you up, chat, have coffee, dinner, drum and have fun altogether in our little Garden City.

or maybe next year we all chip in some $$$$$ and fly Johan in to give us a Workshop On Hammering & ReCreating Cymbals har? (but 1st must get all the Tools ready)....

Yo Johan, First of all, great cymbal work and great drumming.

Great to know someone on the other side of the earth having the same interest.

Hope you can share your experience with us.

As I was trained in metal workshop before, I hope to accomplish what you have achieved when we have right tools here in Singapore.

Will keep you updated and post photos of the tools you have suggest when we have found them.

Have a great New Year ahead!

Hey Johan... alvyn from sputnikmusic MXDP here.

Glad to see that you're sharing your immense wealth of knowledge with drummers from all around the world!

I've been an avid fan of your work since you first posted in MXDP. :) Sure hope to see more of your masterpieces here.

I'm offering my cymbals to get hand hammered by anyone here with experience. I got them with a second hand drumset so I wouldn't mind it much :)

MAKE ME THE FIRST CUSTOMER!

After reading this thread, it made me feel like taking out my hammer frm the storeroom and wack some cymbals. LOL

This is what the local newspaper has written:
(please dont mind the poor translation, it is probably better than googles)

Brugge - Consternation in the Brugian music community. Last week tuesday Johan van der Sijpe has died. Born in Sijsel and lived to become 43. Van de Sijpe was seen as one of Belgiums most talented drummers in his generation.

'He could play all styles, from jazz to rock', says Philippe Lefief, ex-musician en today active at the website Moon Art Gallery.

In the 80's Van de Sijpe started with Cerceuil, later on he also played with Chacok Twice, Bronks and Cowboys and Aliens. His most succesfull engagement was with Jo Lemaire, with whom he also toured extensively. He played drums at reunion shows of St.James. His last group was coverband Noisy Neighbours.

'Johan has never found a group with wider recognition. Everybody appreciated him, but he has never realised it himself', reminisces Roel Jacobus, bassplayer with Skov. Van de sijpe, who resided in the province West-Vlaanderen, lived a reclusive life.

'Johan was a dreamer. He even designed his own cymbals', says Lefief.

Such tragic news...

Johan and his works of art will always be remembered.

Maybe he is drumming and re-creating cymbals in another world...

RIP Johan. You will be missed.

Johan, RIP.

sorry to bring up an old thread but i saw on cymbalholics that they're selling away his modern cymbals collection, about 200+ of them from zildjian paiste sabian bosphorus etc..

anyone thought of getting a piece or two?
