i really have been asked by my friends why i play the bass. They ask me why i play the bass when i'm so small. Sometimes i do too. I know im very small but i like playing the bass. Is it such a crime? By the way , im only !.55m and im 14+.

Isa, size don't matter.

as long as u r happy with what u do, and it is not hurting urself or anyone else, carry on. anyway u r 14+. still alot of growing-up (i mean height!) to do...

I was 14 when I start playing the bass, do not worry or care about what other people said about you. You live your own life according to you and not for other people . As long as you enjoy what you are doing that is what matters. If you have the interest you will adapt to normal scale bass guitar, it is better to go through the hard way and enjoyed later than go the easy way and get stuck .

Later years

Imagine how strong your fingers are going to be after a couple of years (or months!) of playing. If you can wrack power out of the instrument despite your size, congratulations, and don't let anyone claim you can't do it, ever. One of the better bassists around town is named Wendy Phua; she plays with Ricky Hendrix currently and has her own thing called Zhen or something. Anyway she's frikkin tiny.

U are only 14, u will grow bigger in size, fret not. And size has nothing to do with how well u play.

forget all those things that your friends say...just practise on your bass and master the instrument...once you are good enough...play your bass infront of them and make their eyes pop out....make them eat the words they say bout you.....

thats if Isa's a guy la.. not that i'm sexist but its true this puberty thingy...

anyway, there are always ways to counter physical disadvantage...

if u do, u'd be even more respected than others...

so, just concentrate on improving ur skills and the next time u hear ppl say that to u, just laugh and agree with them... they'll realise their mistake once they see u perform on stage...

i started playing the bass when i was 14 ++ also .. !! .. but then i wasn't that small neither was i that short lah .. shorter than now of course .. but honestly Isa, don't give up playing the bass just because people say you are too small ..

i have this friend who has a metal band and his bassist is also super small .. i think around the same height as you .. scrawny and white .. i mean .. really ang moh lah .. but he plays the bass .. so don't lose hope.

Anyway, you are just 14 plus only, WILL GROW one lah .. just keep practicing and i'm sure when you reach 18 years of age you can shut their mouths by just showing them what you have been doing the past 4 years .. ahahahah ..

The best bass players i know in SG arent taller than 1.7m. So take heart, and make your detractors rips theirs out!

Hey Kelvin .. how tall are you?? =)

sama sama Kelvin .. i'm around the same as you .. just a CM taller though? .. ahahah .. no worries ... i don't see why an asian can't match up to those ang mohs in US .. just because they have more publicity than we do? .. i bet we have talented musicians in the asia-pacific region that can match up to the american standard ...

Yeah size is definitely not an issue for most people. I mean look, Wendy Phua isnt like 1.8 and shes kicking ass! Point is, whether 1.4 or 2.2m tall, the bass is an instrument most valued for keeping time, and maintaining the integrity of the rhythm section. However if one wants to really fly around a 6 string Pattituci model bass, thats a different story, but might as well play guitar right? :)

play bass? too small?
play keyboard bass, buy a 49 keys synth
MIDI to a good bass module and all you need
is to put the synth on a table then use your hand to play
