To go multi or not....

Hey guys, need your advice. My distortion pedal was stolen at a gig. (If I ever find the dude who stole my pedal hes in for some terrible days.) and I was contemplating purchasing a multi-efx unti.

I have used two multi efx units before, namely the zoom 707II and the Korg AX3000G. I found the two to be very weak distortion wise, effects were just alright and they were to a certain extent difficult to use.

When I got my single distortion pedal, I could get brutal tones that the multi-efxs never could achieve. With the loss of the single pedal, I was stranded. Can't buy it because its rare and out of production.

Should I consider multi-efx because of their advantages?
E.g Having a whole range of effects to choose from, easier recording(with respect to line 6 stuff)

My main focus is getting a heavy distortion......but itd be nice to have some efxs.

imho, just go with another dist pedal. since you liked the sound of a single pedal compared to the multi effects. plus multi effects are digital so they might not suit your liking.

another factor is what you're playing. if you're gonna need alot of other effects more, you could get the multi effects.

your choice of an analogue distortion pedal + a booster pedal (can be any od effect also) + bypass pedal = great investment! No need for multifx..anyway mind naming your lost pedal?

i ve got a korg 1500 unit, the distortion modellers are pretty okay. Ive used a marshall bluesbreaker as a booster to desirable effect. The improvement is marked.

Having said that, im selling my Korg Ax1500

I did try multi + distortion pedal together.
Then i tried distortion pedal direct to amp, sounded much better. One problem ive found with most multis, is the huge toneloss when bypassed compared to singles.

There are other gd metal pedals around. What u can do is team up your metal pedal with mm4 and dl4. Both act like multi effects and are true bypass. Gd luck with your tonequest

BOSS GT-8 or Line6 PodXT Live wld be a gd investment. Both dun sound fake and u can set the gain to super-duper high, esp. on the GT-8. The Pod impresses too though. Get an Ibanez Tubescreamer pedal 2 supplement either of the 2 multi-fx units suggested by me, u'll find the results to be quite spectacular. Tone heaven.
