Thinking of learning a bit of bass

O.K, so originally, im a guitarist, but I want to broaden my horizons and learn some bass stuff.

I have an accoustic bass, but it rarely gets played.

What are some basic things i can do. the only thing I know is which fret = which note, and so I play along to simple songs with only a few guitar chords.

Also is accoustic bass harder than normal electric?

Cheers

Learn to create melodic basslines loh. I guess its easy for someone with a guitar background. Physically its harder to play. harder to fly on it, but i guess thats what makes a bassline SIT IN THE POCKET :)

imo, improvising a bass line is easier than improvising a guitar solo/lead fill...it's more obvious on the bass...however, if u play an 'off' note on the bass it' also be more obvious...

accoustic bass is harder to play compare than electric bass dude =)
just keep playin yeah, who knows one day you'll frequent the bass gear instead of electric one, haha

electric bass would be recommended lah .. but if you are determined .. you can learn on anything .. i started learning bass on my acoustic guitar .. hur hur hur ...

main thing is to learn how to keep the time and groove of a song .. for a bassline ... but get your technique down first .. very important .. or else if you wanna learn more advance stuff .. it'll be tougher on you ... not impossible .. but proper technique solves alot of problems ..

haha i learnt bass during my acoustic guitar days too..

well, personally i just know the notes on the fret (mostly on the 3rd and 4th strings) and usually i would do basslines by using some scales i use on the guitar, like the minor pentatonic for example. its all in the hearing, taste and your creativity, but its also all in the practice. i used to play only notes on the bass, but now i can do some simple riffs, and ive learnt how to pick the strings instead of always galloping.

oh btw ive tried an acoustic bass before. its really hard to play cuz of the action of the strings. but if you're really keen on learning, jam out on your acoustic first before proceeding to the electric. it strengthens your fingers and stretches them so you can do even better on the electric.

hope this helped

cheers
