Things Every Drummer Does

Haha! I was at this other forum called Drums My Life and I saw this thead:
http://www.drumsmylife.com/things-every-drummer-does-vt6724.html

Basically, things every drummer does are:

- When our favorite song comes on, we start air drumming and don't even realize it
- When we here someone talking about drums, we can't help but give our 2 cents
- When we're talking w/ other drummers, no one else has a clue what we're saying
- Absolutly anything (table tops, books, our laps, walls, floors) might as well be a drum set to us
- It drives everyone around us nuts
- Every musician says the instument they play is best...but we know which one is REALLY the best
- When asked why we left our last band it's always "Cause everyone else was a dick"
- We bitch about having to haul our gear to gigs, but we wouldn't trade it for the world
- We make it look easy
- There's no argument like Zildjian vs Sabian
- ...except maybe Birch vs Maple
- Trashing our set is like slapping our mama...that just AIN'T GONNA FLY
- We know the difference between a skilled player and a loud player
- No one else knows how retarded someone looks when you get pissed off at them for denting the shit out of your new set of freshly tuned drum heads and asks "Dude, whats your problem? Whats the big deal?"
- When we see a good drummer play, that's all we see
- When we see a crappy drummer play, same thing
- Most bands take us for granted...and regret it the second we're gone
- People can't seem to understand why we'll play $350 for a round piece of metal or $1500 for a set of shells
- We all have somewhat big heads and need to be put in our place sometimes lol
- Usually that someone is a better drummer that just makes us wanna to play even more
- Blisters and calases are a small price to pay
- You know who the drummer is after the show...he's the guy with his shirt off, pouring w/ sweat and rubbing his wrists

Quite funny!!! A lot of it apply to me. HAHA!

- We bitch about having to haul our gear to gigs, but we wouldn't trade it for the world

Hahahaa I do that all the time! Get back and shoulder aches everytime lol.

- People can't seem to understand why we'll pay $350 for a round piece of metal or $1500 for a set of shells

I get that all the time. Friends are astounded by why I'd spend on much on pieces of metal lol.

- Most bands take us for granted...and regret it the second we're gone

Very true. I think us drummers are like goalkeepers in a football team. When we play well, everything is fine and nobody says anything. But when we fumble or make mistakes, we become the biggest sinners! lol.

hear hear!!

my friends dun get why i have so many sticks too. "isn't it one-size-fits-all?" doh!

er-hm..diff sticks got diff smell..ahaha!! :smt003

hahaha... u and your smelling fetish, snow...

People can't seem to understand why we'll play $350 for a round piece of metal or $1500 for a set of shells
yeah, alot of ppl esp my mom dont understand why i spend so much on the pieces of metal....

We bitch about having to haul our gear to gigs, but we wouldn't trade it for the world
lets not say about gigs, even just normal jamming, i would haul my things to the studios... and ppl dont understand why.. hahahah

Most bands take us for granted...and regret it the second we're gone
very true............

When our favorite song comes on, we start air drumming and don't even realize it
this happens everywhere.....
in the mrt, at home, at work, on the bed.. hahahahaha

Every musician says the instument they play is best...but we know which one is REALLY the best
super true!!!!!!

When we here someone talking about drums, we can't help but give our 2 cents
just like whats happening now!

the air drumming makes me look like weirdo.. i've learnt to control it to the point when only my index fingers move and i don't play the kick drum parts heel up, only wriggling toes in my shoe

hahahaha sid! same on the index fingers but i tap my feet.

one question, any drummer(s) here bring your practice pad around and practice like on the mrt, bus, yada yada?

i'm in m'sia now, brought my practice pad and sticks along heh.

oh yah man, i use to practice on my kneee. once someone told me to shuddup on the bus. i didn't but i was bigger. haahah

Actually I realise it - and I do it all the while - Air Drumming.

- It drives everyone around us nuts

So true - especially my family - me wify quarrel with me even till today when I drum....sometimes I dont even have an hour to drum.

- People can't seem to understand why we'll play $350 for a round piece of metal or $1500 for a set of shells

Yes this is very true, even me myself cannot understand...hahahaha Me wify always ask me to buy this or buy that for myself or for her - I would say "Wah so expensive har"...then she will always says "Your Drumming Stuffs ley - you never say it's so expensive" buy a shoe S$200 you say expensive buy your cynbals S$700 or S$500 you always tell me "GOOD BUY".....hahahaha so I shutup and take my wallet out pay lor?

- Usually that someone is a better drummer that just makes us wanna to play even more

Yes that's inspiring

Lol my mum already ask why I pay so much for a piece of wood with a slice of rubber on top (I'm sure you know what that is, haha)

When our favorite song comes on, we start air drumming and don't even realize it
Very true...I catch myself doing it all the time...

There's no argument like Zildjian vs Sabian
Except maybe whether Carlos is good or bad...

You know who the drummer is after the show...he's the guy with his shirt off, pouring w/ sweat and rubbing his wrists
We female drummers will be the ones asking around desperately for a dry towel, or a packet of tissue paper...

It drives everyone around us nuts
Last night...
My mum: "Can you dun sit there and tok-tok-tok or not ah, you still got your chemistry to study hor!!!"

hmmm...
drumming...it's jus not something u can do sneakily
yr room gets smaller, finances get tighter, there are sounds abound, things start tapping (sticks, fingers, toes, feet, pencils...) when u hear something good, drumsticks protruding out of bags or making bags look odd-shaped...

i've never had this many flat-soled sneakers in my life either

but ya know wat? i've probably never been happier either :smt003
