The RIAA Says No Dancing To Music On YouTube

We already know that the entertainment industry loves to try to get people to pay for every possible use of their content. Remember the filmmaker who almost couldn't release his documentary because there was a four and a half second clip of The Simpsons playing in the background in one scene? It seems that with the rise of user-generated video, a lot more people are learning about the fun of licensing rights. The RIAA is apparently sending out cease-and-desist letters to YouTube users who dare to put up videos of things such as themselves dancing to music they haven't licensed. It's difficult to see how the RIAA can make a credible claim of "losses" in this case. Clearly, some kids videotaping themselves bopping along to some song aren't going to pay a license fee -- and these sorts of viral videos tend to help build up more interest in artists. So what good does it do to go after these videos?

Now we can't dance to our favourite songs? Oh yeah of course we can, just don't post it on YouTube.

i thought by doing tt u're promoting the song.. liek piggyback advert....really insane world..think the day will come we will all have to wear 1 type of shirt

im sick of the RIAA.

This is just stupid.

Soon they'll probably make us pay royalties each time we listen to a cd :S

wooit...

it doesnt seem right to pay for such a useless and lame video.... well, unless u were doing a solo of Speed Metal Symphony, then its worth it to pay... if u were dancing, well, do it privately unless u were doing ur own version of "So You Think You Could Dance?"

I'm guessing the people who worked for RIAA probably love their jobs cause they get to piss alot of people off and they get paid for it. Now thats Jackass.

^YES!!

Alamak then don't see lah.

I don't. It just pisses me off that there is so many vids, and that no one really cares about them. I'd rather the space be used to upload some meaningful videos instead. It's like going thru videos section and see faces of idiots giving a message to their bf or some shit, dancing to some song, giving their views on things trying to look smart when they're obviously bimbos, etc.

Once in awhile you need those girls to help you....... erm, eye candy I mean

But seriously, I cannot imagine the world to be in the future :( So sad.

I know where to look for eye candy. And no, i don't get aroused looking at fully clothed teen girls dancing and acting cute. It'll take too long.

lol banning dancing to music is silly. but posting videos of yourself dancing to music seems slightly sillier, actually. (:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHHAHAHHAHAHH

the wisdom of this age coming to nothing!

they should shut up and finish their job at getting rid of mp3 players first lah... wanna disturb youtube vids for what toot
