The Police Live In Singapore!

^^ nice post on the blog!

My favourite Police album would be Zenyattà Mondatta though. It makes me happy like none other! Mercury Falling and Ten Summoner's Tales are both #1 on my Sting list.

and Epilogue (Nothing 'bout Me) tops as my favourite song of all time : )

Only a few days till the gig!

Police + Fiction Plane

Steward Copeland is as hard hitting as he always has been. "Wrapped around your finger" is a painting on stage. Despite the age of 60+, Andy Summers is still rocking (almost everywhere) with his candy red Strat. And as for Sting himself, his voice is one that defines a band's success. Saw them in Amsterdam Arena last September. Would die to go again.

Worth noting: Fiction Plane opening the show. The guy got traits like his father. But not as groomed yet.

amazing gig! one of the best I've ever attended, the atmosphere, the energy... out of this world...

sorri, last min ticket, so here's how the rear view looks like... still I enjoyed it!

It was fantastic! Despite the ages of Sting (55, Bass/Vocals), Andy Summers (65, Guitars/Backing Vocals) and Stewart Copeland (55, Drums/Percussion/Vocals), the Police rocked out so hard and tight for close to 2 hours! They sounded so good, it was hard to believe it was only 3 of them on stage... my only grip was the live sound... it could have been mixed better... too harsh, very muddy mix, etc...

Sting was in fine form, his voice was so strong and on pitch - he could definitely hit the high notes. Stewart Copeland was so sublime and fantastic with his drumming - he creates such a distinctive style which IMHO, is the backbone of the Police sound... and my favourite, Andy Summers... played so creatively, passionately and sometimes, outwardly (cos he used lots of jazz scales and modes). Nonetheless, it was a treat for me, especially hearing Andy's solos!

I definitely have a new found appreciation of the band after seeing them play live! Having seen my childhood rock heroes in action was definitely a treat - I hope that they would continue and at least do a new studio album... I can only hope.

The $100 tickets (cheapest of all) wasn't too bad. I was about halfway from the stage, on the left side. As I was seated in the gallery section, I had a fantastic view of the stage and also the fans on the floor. I also had a really big video screen which I could see so easily.

The setlist the best I could remember is:

Message In A Bottle
Synchronicity II
Walking on the Moon
Voices Inside My Head / When The World Is Running Down
Don't Stand So Close to Me
Driven To Tears
Hole In My Life
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Wrapped Around Your Finger
De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da
Invisible Sun
Walking In Your Footsteps
Can't Stand Losing You/Reggatta De Blanc
Roxanne

Encore
King of Pain
So Lonely
Every Breath You Take
Next To You

Wish they could have played "Tea in the Sahara" as it's one of my faves...
Hope that a bootleg of the concert would surface so I can keep it for rememberance.

It was also cool to have caught Fiction Plane - the opening act. I think they did really well... it's definitely a challenge to play in front of a restless crowd who do not know who you are and do not know your songs. It was after the concert that I realised that the frontman of the band was actually Sting's son - Joe Sumner.

Another thing that was really cool for me was sitting next to a Ang Mor grandmother, she could be in her 70s, I think... she was really enjoying herself - swaying her body from her seat and tapping her feet, nodding her head, etc... wow! That's amazing for me... I hope to be as active and curious and interested about things when I'm her age (if I ever survive that long). Fantastic!

I love Andy Summers! But his soloing was a bit off at times last night. But respect to him at his age!

But I didn't think the band was all that tight though. They were quite sloppy at times.

Stuart Copeland didn't even sing at all. But still the vocal effects they used on Andy Summers and Sting's mikes were cool. Some sorta harmonising effects.

Heh, alot of people didn't know that Fiction Plane is actually fronted by Sting's son. Hmm, I think alot of people also didn't know that there was even gonna be an opening band.

Nonetheless, they can still rock man. :)
Even though my experience was only for 2 songs. :p

Just for trivia, Andy Summers was using a Southpark "Oh My God They Killed Kenny!" Guitar strap. Damn cool. I rike.
I'm also glad that Sting decided to shave. He was spotting an untidy beard just last week!

I felt that it was an awesome performance...

Stewart was amazing... So musical was his drumming..

Andy summer's was far from off... in fact I would say it was the right type of off... heh heh..Loved it...

Sting... can really really sing live.. not once did he go off pitch..

They are definately a 'live' band... The records hardly do the music any justice..

If I had to pay 400 bucks.. I'd do it again.. heh...

I think it was an experience many many people would never forget. It'll be a scene I'll never forget as well when I looked around and saw the stadium full to the brim with eager smiling faces. I'm not a huge huge Police fan but they can still rock and are really professional about their craft.

Watched the concert from the front row!

Sang along to every word of every song. It was unreal! Got some good pictures, videos, and a whole lot of audio.

@chiagerald: I don't remember hearing Walking In Your Footsteps.. Or maybe it's just that I was too amazed to remember! haha
