The Next Big Thing..

What do you think would likely be the next big thing? I mean like, the next HUGE guitar hero..
Someone like Hendrix who sweeps the world away with his playing..

Pier.

no one foreseeable at the moment.

problem is that most great guitarists gain recognition from being in the top band in the world, and the current music trend just isn't towards a band with lead vocals + lead guitarist thing.

Yeah Matt and Trivium are outstanding, but I can't stand the silly fiasco that is Ember & the Infernos.

i somewhat agree with thor on tt the world doesn't focus on certain members kinda thing...but i'm guessing maybe john mayer...not some shred virtouso guru.

Phil: From Ember To Inferno.

And thor's right. Most guitarists these days only gain some form of recognition through their bands. Heafy's a fine example.

Not that his chops suck, but there sure as hell are a whole load of guitarists whose are a LOT more technically proficient than him, just that nobody acknowledges their existence 'cuz they're not on headbangers ball...

Hmm.

I think Dan Hawkins from the Darkness has plenty of space to move into.. he's already pretty much up there... and he's done judging at guitar competitions and all.

John Mayer has the chops for sure, but don't you think that his playing is quite derivative? As in, he wears his influences on his sleeve... nothing really new and exciting.. this is not a diss, I like his playing..

Pier.

Morello was the last new thing i heard from any guitarist so far. the rest are the same penta based shredders.

I have the album From Ember to Inferno.
And no, I meant Ember and the Infernos, the only Trivium tribute band in the world. Of which are comprised of Heafy and gang in moustaches and dress-up.

Ya now that you guys mentioned, John Mayer would be a possbility, albeit a very low chance. If his music were accessible to many people, he could just become the next big thing.

Guthrie Govan is pretty much a genius in my opinion but he's been playing for very long without many famous records or a big reputation to his name.

The 2 players that got me excited were Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead and Tom Morello, they play very out of this world stuff and has a very instantly recognisable sound. But I guess making weird noises with ur guitar aint gonna get u connected with the majority.

My vote will go with John Mayer, cos he sings as well, tat is gonna make him connect with a wider audience and prehaps a better chance to be the next big thing.

John Mayer is so young and so talented. When I first listened to 'Neon' , I was blown away man.

high chance of him being the next big thing if you ask me.

Matt Heafy from Trivium

alot of guitar mags think that.

I see nothing special. Just a leader of the new metal core whatever genre/brand you wanna give it.

mark morton is pretty kick arse. Alexi is one of my fav atm aswell.

none really. there are really some good guitarists out there. but what made hendrix stand out was the ability to come up with something new and innovate. none have been really able to do that so far.

and being the next hendrix have little to do with one's ability to shred.
