The Motive

forced by mum to learn piano since kindergarten.. wow 12 years of learning already still stuck at grade 7.. 8O
started listening to greenday since sec 1 then formed band with friend..
got forced to learn drums by friend.. :(
seriously got sick of drums decided to learn guitar cause i got inspired by greenday's basketcase as well.. (i was a friggin punkrocker back then)
learnt it within a day! then decided that guitar was my instrument..
got bored of punkrock, abandoned it for instrumentals..
thats why now I'm writing neo classical instrumentals for mostly piano and guitar :D

i learnt guitar to kill time.also,i got inspired by slash and his wonderful solos.i learnt it after trying out on my friend's guitar and found it relatively easy.

DoubleBlade: i took it for real for a moment. 8O

i didnt know that learn people learn music to kill time... 8O

rikki: is guitar a tool to kill time?

I was inspired by X = )
It could,ve been drums or bass but you could,ve said i was too naive back then and thought yea guitar was cool.

but

Now i cant stop. =))

Tightpants = buldge also = dickpainT_T
imagine getting something like that during a performance. plus summore tambourine. no guitar , drums , bass , piano to cover.

+ 10 for the triangle. I performed at Victoria Concert Hall playing triangle with my primary school choir for a competition, we won silver. The teacher in charge of choir just kick me into percussion group becos I was really bad at vocals.

That was the beginning of my performing days.

I picked up the guitar, when i was 15, inspired by my schoolmates who played the guitars. looks cool.

but i move to bass after a year, upon my friends who wanted to form a band, and request me to be a bassist. At first, I thought, "what the heck was that?" He persuade me that it was a very easy to master instrument, that you don't need to move your hands too much, and very easy to play it. and just like that, and BIG BANG!

I just fell in love with bass, grooves and everything. and taking it up seriously.

wooo...

where are the singers?? see no singers here.
sing because of wanting to be the next SUPERSTAR? anyone?

ya correct. it will still stick out....

:D no instrument to cover so? when get tired and lazy to use your hands, u can use it to play. wohoo..

DONG DONG DONG!

can your magic stick do that on guitar, bass, drums or piano?

wah.
all so noble...

i picked up the guitar in secondary school cause
guitarists were freakin cool and got all the chicks...

then of course it went too far after i fell in love with
the instrument and the chicks hated it when i went
guitar gear shopping and talked music all the time...

then i got no chicks anyway...

but who cares?
i got my guitar.

hahaha! finally found one who learn guitar for the chicks!

is it really useful to play guitar and get the chicks?

I guess my biggest influence was cos I felt like it was cool at first. Then i stopped for awhile. After that I realised I didnt want to disaappoint my ex so I got serious with it(she bought me my first guitar). She still inspires me to play now, though she's not with me

he meant guys. lol.

i started with piano when i was abt 8 or so. didnt even make it to grade 1 exams as i felt forced to learn too much in so little time. classical was never my thing anyway. eventually gave it up.

when i was 12, i learnt to pick up the acoustic guitar but i only knew how to play the lead line to 'apache' only. (lol influences my dad gave me) he soon bought an electric bass for my elder brother and when i saw it i wanted an electric guitar.

somehow we swapped along the way. lol

my very first bassline i learnt was 'teenage dirtbag' by wheatus. man, that was 4 years ago. i finally learnt what bass was all about eventually.

perhaps why i took up the bass was because i could never see myself in the limelight, like doing a solo, making it all seem like it's all about me. it's just part of my personality. maybe i wasnt that expressive (but definitely learning to be. music has to be the biggest expression one can give), and i wasnt that kind that would jump up on the table and shout: "hey!! look at me!" and start doing a handstand or make a fool out of myself (or others).

not to stereotype and say that all lead guitarists are extraverts, but they seem to be the better lead guitarists IMO.

i'm a quiet introvert that doesnt mind not standing at the top. this is perhaps why i chose a supporting role in a band.

and thats what being a bassist is all about. and i relish every moment the bass is slung acorss my shoulder.

Haha, you just wait.. look at steve harris of iron maiden!! He jumps around more than bruce dickinson!

But glad you find your role in a band and fit in well. Yes, I like it that way too. I dont like it when my bassist comes and tries to upstage the lead guitarist (me  ).. Ive always been a show off kinda guy.. :P

haha! its not rated as show off but then i think its more towards letting the crowd feel u..its strange! its just come but itself. naturally!
