"Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority, they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers."

-Socrates, more than 2400 years ago.

we must teach our children asian values

Oh please, 'Asian values' no longer holds true in today's modern world. There are just 'good values' and 'bad values', and even then they are defined by what an individual chooses to see in them. I highly doubt a country like, say, North Korea, who is part of Asia, holds the same 'Asian values' as India? 'Asian values'? No, by Asian values, what you really mean is [v]'Singaporean values' - and by that what you really mean is 'outright self-righteous bigotry and a quick temperament for judging the actions of others'.[/b] You know, the one the authorities feed down your throat to instill in you and your kids the unquestionining obedience required to be a 'good Asian citizen' of Singapore.

I am not condoning the actions of the teenagers here, but I cannot stand such smug self-satisfactory statements like "Let us teach them our Asian values!".
