The Fourth Finger

People always ask about the pinky, but to me, the pinky is easier to use than the fourth finger. How do you guys build up the independency of the fourth finger? I find it very hard to seperate the middle and fourth, is there anyway to improve on this?

Blackmoo has said it. :)

Practice. Pick licks/exercises that force you to use your 4th finger independently. Plenty of frustration I'm sure but stick to it, while making sure you don't strain yourself, and you'll be working it in no time. :)

haha i know, practice. But on what? I'm currently doing tt excercise frm the rock discipline video, but is there any other kind of excercise that will be helpful? :)

if you are talking abt the ring finger, which in common parlance is referred to as the 3rd finger, here's my tip:
go up and down the neck with just your 2nd and 3rd finger, alternating them. It works.

try 56787656787656787656787656786567865..............n rmmbr lift up all other fingers when one is at work. This is finger independence we'r talkin abt here! If ye dont treat yer fingers well, they might rebel 8O

pick up blues! in 3 month you'll get calluses on your ring finger and it will be stronger than ever.

Anyway, when you say 4th finger it's confuse me. Pinky is finger number 4 in guitar lesson (tab)
