Walcott is the only doubt for North London derby
Arsenal v Tottenham H.
Barclays Premier League
Emirates Stadium
Sat, Dec 22, 2007, 12.45pm

By Richard Clarke

Theo Walcott is the sole concern ahead of the North London derby this weekend.

The England winger is not training at the moment after being laid low with flu. Otherwise Arsenal have a clean bill of health before the visit of Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime, a very different situation to the many questions marks that were hanging over the squad ahead of the Chelsea game last Sunday.

“The injury news is quite good compared to last week,” Arsène Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon. “The only one who is problematic is Theo Walcott. He is not fit to practice. He has had flu and has not recovered completely. Everybody else is available.”

Therefore Emmanuel Eboue is fit despite being stretchered off against Avram Grant’s side.

Arsenal TV Online subscribers will be able to see the full pre-match interview on Friday. In it Wenger talks about Juande Ramos’ revolution at Spurs, fans’ behaviour, the importance of this derby, the performance at Blackburn, Eduardo’s finishing and Alex Song’s defending, why Chelsea was the key win of the season and William Gallas’ goal.

bro fgl
i am a man utd fan, quite hardcore i should say but let me be the first to pay compliments to arsenal.
the football that was and is being played since Mr Wenger took over the reins of Gunners is by far one of the best that I have seen
reminds me of 70's Ajax and 74 Dutch national team-Johan Cryuff stuff
sometimes i envied the way the game the gunners played as is it is how it should be played
and let me say this also-mr wenger is probably the best coach/manager in EPL. why should i say this??
he had turned average players to truly phenomenal players-look at the current team.

this are hard facts and to me, mr wenger is the best signing that arsenal have made.

btw my fave arsenal player-charlie nicholas
fave defender-tony adams
fave striker-denis bergkamp
fave midfield- liam brady

ehh...red devils and gunners have shared a common player
only the true fans would know this...

Arsenal to face AC Milan in Champions League

Liverpool and Arsenal have paid the price for finishing second in the their respective Champions League groups with respective draws against Inter Milan and AC Milan in the first knockout round.

The draw, held in Nyon this morning, also left Celtic facing up to two matches against Spanish giants Barcelona, while Chelsea have it slightly easier after being drawn with Olympiacos.

The other British side in the last 16 of the competition, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, will play French side Lyon.

Liverpool, whose form in the knockout phase of the competition has been impressive under Rafael Benitez, finished strongly in Group A with a 4-0 win at Marseille but they could only finish as runners-up after a slow start to their campaign.

That means they face the current Serie A leaders, with the first leg at Anfield, for the first time in the Champions League.

The sides last met competitively in the European Cup semi-final in 1965, a two-legged contest which Inter won on aggregate.

Gordon Strachan's Celtic are more familiar with their opponents, having played Barca four times in 2004 - twice in the UEFA Cup and twice in the Champions League.

The Hoops lost just one of those matches, beating them 1-0 at home in the former competition.

The last time United met their French opponents was in 2004, when they drew at Lyon in the group stages before beating them 2-1 at Old Trafford thanks to Ruud van Nistelrooy's winner.

Arsenal have not been pitted against reigning champions AC Milan since the Italians beat them 2-0 in the 1995 European Super Cup final but, having made the final in 2006, they will be hoping to avoid a repeat of that result.

Chelsea boss Avram Grant, meanwhile, will be positive about his chances of providing Roman Abramovich with the continental success his predecessor Jose Mourinho could not after being drawn with the Greek side.

The Blues, who play the first leg away before hosting the decisive clash at Stamford Bridge, will be favourite to progress in what is the first meeting between the sides.

Elsewhere in the draw German side Schalke meet Porto, Roma play Real Madrid and Fenerbahce tackle Sevilla.

on this part, gua agreed with mr wenger that EPL clubs played a lot of games in a season

the two Milan teams are difficult to play against on the continental stage..
Seria A teams played the league, local cup and Europe

EPL teams played league,FA,Europe and that League cup... 1 week maybe 4 matches
furthermore other leagues have a winter break but EPL do not..esp X'mas and New Year period

they played 2 or 3 games in 5 days...

no doubt EPL players are among the highly paid sportsmen but sometimes I think that this is another form of "slavery"

ever wonder why the likes of football greats like Zidane,Figo, Maradonna never played in EPL..it is probably because of the tight fixtures..
