THE FOOTBALL THREAD Vol 2

Eh bro when a Man U fan starts to get doubts abt beating LIVERPOOL, u'd better be on ur guard ok! Nvm, it'll be an interesting contest. Maybe unsung heroes will take the stage and win the game, ppl like Mascherano, Fabregas, Toure or Carragher, i'd REALLY love to see Carra score a goal at the proper end. He's got 2 goals this season, yes 2 goals. Pity they were own goals, 1 for Spurs and 1 for Hull.

Chelsea v Juventus
Villarreal v Panathinaikos
Sporting Lisbon v Bayern Munich
Atlético Madrid v FC Porto
Lyon v Barcelona
Real Madrid v Liverpool
Arsenal v AS Roma
Internazionale v Manchester United

arsenal has got easiest challenger out of those 4 english teams, i guess.

yup, knowing arsenal, they can make it look like defeating an "easy" team very difficult... and of course, defeating "difficult" teams very easily... :P

roma not that easy..

chelsea fought hard to beat them, once.. and that was 1-nil..
and they lost the one at rome 3-1, so yeah.

watch out for panucci, he is their star man this season.

yeah dont underestimate roma. i have this feeling all the english teams are going to go through this round.. except chelsea. juventus is really strong.

dudelove: yeap, juventus is very strong. mohammed sissoko is one hell of a player now after his switch from liverpool..

and i realised, all the italian clubs are facing english teams.. tough draw.
cause to me, naturally, italian teams have the strongest of defences..

So its now 1-1 at half-time, with goals from Robin Van Persie in the 24th min, before a cracking equaliser from Robbie Keane. In truth the score could have been something like 3-2 or 3-3 had both sides taken their chances. Steven Gerrard slid in but the ball went over the crossbar, before Dirk Kuyt's belter from 20 yards was superbly parried by Almunia. There was then some commotion from the resulting corner between Van Persie and Albert Riera. The corner was poorly taken but as Arsenal looked to break swiftly, Jamie Carragher stepped in with an excellent challenge to concede a throw-in. But that was of no detriment to Liverpool as referee Howard Webb then blew the whistle for half-time.

Its been an entertaining match with the usual drama, dubious fouls and a very soft red card. To be very honest here, Liverpool shoulda won, look at the match stats, 58% possesion! And 13 shots! Best chance of the half fell to Daniel Agger, but his stunning drive was inches wide of the top corner. But the main talking point is probably Adebayor's sending off. Quite a dive by Arbeloa to be honest, and it was an extremely soft 2nd yellow. I didn't anything wrong there, and he was very, very unlucky. I actually yelled 'referee kayu'. But a draw is a draw, and with Chelsea playing Everton, i dun see any reason they shld slip up. Arsenal have a very very slim chance of winning the title now, as they lacked real cutting edge after Fabregas was substituted. And Adebayor's sending off only made it worse. I must applaud him for keeping his cool. So, the final score at the Emirates stadium is 1-1. Robin Van Persie '24 Robbie Keane '42.

yup it's an entertaining match nonetheless. im glad that arsenal manage not to concede a goal in the second half after adebayor's sending off. he didn't really deserve the second yellow card though. and fabregas' not being able to continue on in the second half, i thought it spelt doom for arsenal actually. diaby wasn't really that good last night, he lost possession of the ball far to easily often.

both goals are spectacular, van persie's shot and keane's tap. a much needed soccer dosage after watching how singapore lost to vietnam despite the chances they have in the vietnamese penalty box.

YES!

If anyone realised, the majority of pool chances came after adebayor was sent off! Friggin diver arbeloa. And I believe the ref was a lot more biased than i would have liked, given so many CARDS against Arsenal when Pool committed more fouls...

But kudos to both goalscorers cause they were both magnificent goals - Van Persie's turn was awesome, and so was keane's finish.

I just hope they can rescind that yellow because Adebayor clearly did not deserve to get sent off, if that Poolboy had some balls he would have challenged clearly for the ball, not go down as though he was elbowed when Adebayor tried to shield the ball from him. Cmon he was clutching his FACE!

...the red card was a stupid thing.ref should have given a warning instead..bloody hell!

liverpool were not playing well...the 1st half after arsenal scored the goal, they were just ball watchers.but,i felt that we could have taken the chances and scored more goals..

anyways..KUDOS LUCKY LIVERPOOL......you will stay top cause Chelsea will lose to everton tonight..haha

Haha i second that. Diving is, however, common in the game, and Van Persie did dive quite dramatically in the 18th min when Carragher won the ball fair and square. But i agree, 2 great goals and quite a few chances. Now, come on to Anfield!
