Just as a matter of curiosity, i remember reading the 11 May 2007 TNP article as archived here - http://www.thearenalive.com.sg/press_releases.html
The headline seemed a bit patronising - "It will feature nightly shows - but local acts need not apply...".
It further quoted Mr Richard Lim, club owner as saying, "It's not that we don't want to support local talent, but that's not our business concept...In a way, these foreign acts can help to elevate the standard of our local live entertainment scene."
Not exactly thumbing their noses at local entertainment, but it seemed dismissive of it in the context of this club's programme. I was under the assumption that this being a world class club, foreign talent was put at a premium.
That's why I am a bit surprised to read that less than 4 months from the article, Krueger has been playing; Enigma is on the Guest Musicians link; and now even a weekly Sunday Jam. Quite a sudden change of business concept, no?
Isn't it a letdown letting all the riff raff onstage? Tsk tsk. There goes the neighbourhood. :wink:
