Talent

Talent?

There're different kinds of talent in a musician. Lyrical, theoretical, melodical(is there such a word?).

As long as you're able to feel it, or the person's able to bring out the feeling he/she wants in the listener, then I think that's talent.

talent is something you will naturally recognise when you meet a person who possesses it.

You will feel that he/she is born to do this.

talent = a little flair + passion + interest + lots of hardwork.
flair ie gift - everyone's born with it; everyone has a flair for something, be it the arts or whatever.
some are gifted ie born with a natural flair for doing something better and quicker than others, but noone's born talented.

IMHO , I think this is the closest definition to the word "talent"

As you all know 1% inspiration 99% perspiration

kinda true dude, all those pros...they practice like mad man,12 hrs a day!! wth,but no sch no nth la,everyday stuck in the same room playing the same old stuff untill super super perfect

Wake up, play guitar. Eat breakfast, play guitar. Go toilet sh!t, play guitar. Etc, etc.

For me, what talent is... in a guitarist context.

A guy can pick up a guitar, any guitar, absolutely ANY guitar, and can make it sing like a beauty.

And he has the ability to create great songs from the tiniest shred of inspiration.

People like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven. These guys have talents. They are remembered long after their demise. Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

They all have talent. How many people are talented enough to be remembered by their music LONG after they are gone? A precious few.

Talented musician <-> talented instrumentalist.

If you see music as a language like English, a talented musician would quickly grasp the musical language, like a 4 month old child understanding words but not able to speak yet. Practice, would of course make one a bettter instrumentalist.

So if anyone is referring to a talented guitarist for instance, it would foremost be someone who can instantly grasp the system of the instrument.

I don't believe that each of us born with different musical talent. I've read somewhere that Babies who are exposed to music (as in listening to music) can learn music faster than most people when they are grown up.

Well, it maybe true, In my opinion, when I listen to different genre continuously, i feel like my playing differs in someway than previously.

Perhaps what we listen to also affect how we learn music?

At age 6 , Richard Claydermen could read and write music more efficiently than his native french.... 8O

The rockstar of the 18th century Franz Liszt remained an illiterate for his entire lifespan although some may argue that he could read and write at it's most basic level , enough for people not to notice....

Liszt would spend at least 10-12 hours on his piano everyday

Steve Vai would spend at least 10 hours on his guitar everyday

these musicians practice all day long just to make sure the song they are playing sounds pitch perfect.....
