Hi,
I started learning piano when I was 17 with a private tutor. Achieved grade 3 ABRSM Practical at 18. I have been playing on and off ever since National Service came along. I am 24 this year, still bad at sight-reading as I have been playing by ear most of the time.
I have been through a huge turn around in life studying Diplomas which I didn't have interest in and then left. Wasted a lot of time and money. Worked in sales industry for awhile and finally learnt that I am just not cut out for it and corporate 9 to 5 Singapore is just not for me.
So I am finally back to square one. My initial intention was to convince myself to avoid music as I am far too old especially in Singapore and that I can forget about a house, car and marriage if I go into music. I think I am done with all that doubt and will do what I want. I hate waking up and having to drag myself to work and countdown to Friday every week. There would be no meaning in life if that cycle of routine is all there is to life. They don't even play music or radio in the office, it is dead silent everyday.
Now my plan is to achieve grade 8 ABRSM in practical and theory within 2 years so that I can be a full time piano teacher. Specialization will come later as the more pressing issue is to be able to earn a steady flow of income from teaching.
My concern is what should I be doing while pushing for my goal? I intend to work part-time so that I can earn extra income. But what type of part-time jobs are there available for me which can also provide me with experience relevant to this industry?
My second dilemma is a piano teacher. How do I know if a piano teacher is right for me? I felt that my previous piano teacher was very passive. I am still looking for a teacher that understand my situation and one that is able to provide me the necessary guidance and encouragement to work towards my goal. If you have anyone in mind that might be able to help me please don't hesitate to e-mail me more information.

Whether it is personal advice or a teacher recommendation, I appreciate all your feedback!
