Do you think that the guitars in swee lee are in good condition? Because they would just give you the one on display if u have chose the model. My friend bought one from there and they just gave him the one on the shelf with rusty strings.

Is that good enough? Can we ask for a new stock when we buy any models?

swee lee ? chinese business model ?

they are running a business like a traditional chinese model.

damn te-rok and jia-lat, price anyhow quote ?!

now I air-flown my Roland modules from USA/Japan.

There is nothing to stop you asking for a new one from the storeroom if they have. I did this before, no problem.

Remember that a lot of items they are likely to only have 1, maybe 2 of them in stock, so the one you see on display is the one you will very probably be buying - they are not trying to rip you off by selling you a bad model. Don't be shy to ask them to give you a new set of strings as part of the deal (maybe more - the last guitar I bought I asked for 5 sets of strings and they gave me.)

It is subjective. The one on display may be a better choice, because that is the one you tested and is satisfied with.

Also likely they would do a standard setup before putting on display to help in selling the product. If you get one fresh in the box, you don't know if it has any problems or not. It's not setup and tuned too.

Rusty strings is common for display stock if they being on display for 2weeks or more. Just request for a new set of strings, normally they will give it free.

Remember, there is not such thing as display only stock in our local market, display stock is selling stock too.

I've just went swee lee today and bought mine... Asked for a new stock but he said that the price is only for the display ones...

Meaning that I have to pay another price if i want to get a new stock. Why is that so?

hey, u were there? what time were u there?

i was there arnd 530. went to buy marty tix. then i played the ibanez S540

Heard that they keep giving the wrong guitars to their customers. For eg my friend asked for a RG370dx and they gave him a RG370B. The sweelee sales dude apparently had no idea there was a difference between the two.
I mean doesnt he know that DX models have inlays.

Are such incidents common?

the experience i had with them for the highway1 series was nothing short of great.

the guy practically took out 3 guitars right from the box for me to try because i was undecided on what colour and the type of neck. This is especially so after i had paid for the guitar the day before. I was prepared for them to chuck me a guitar and tell me its all the stock they had, but im proud to say i totally enjoyed my experience there.

So far, the few guitars i've got off SweeLee, i've always asked for the brand new ones instead of displays. Each time they accomodated me and charged the same price, plus a general set up cos it's just right outta the box. Part of it, i guess, is knowing which sales person to talk to. Right now, no problems with that for me.

Yup. Just gotta have the right connections. My amps and stuff usually are the ones I test, unless I request otherwise. Then they would give me a new one.

However, that time I got my RG1550, it was brand new, still in the brown Ibanez box, and I think they forgot to set it up for me.

Left the locking nuts loose and when I did my first divebomb, tuning was shot to hell and back. :(

Thing is, don't be afraid to ask them to at least get a new instrument, and get it set up so that it's playable. It's your money after all.

I can't believe it, these people do they know what they are doing?

Anyway, I heard stories from some people the music store is just to
showcase their presence; Swee Lee main business is actually distributing
PA systems and amps to the region such as Indonesia, M'sia, Vietnam, etc... This is their big time business and the distribution are in tonnes.

That's why the business in the retail store is like rojak, they dun see any big profit from the store, it's just to have shop to let people know they are around.

It is true that some of the guitars at swee lee are in poor conditions. I was checking out the ibanez ergodyne at bras basah branch and found the knob on the switch selector missing. I asked one of the sales person and he told me that the display set is the only piece they have left and there is nothing wrong with the switch. They don't seem to know their own stuff well when I ask more questions regarding that guitar.

In the end, I didn't buy it because the missing part is totally unacceptable. My point is, do some research and check the guitar thoroughly before you buy anything from them.

Going to a big shop, you might have a field day or a bad day, cuz you dunno who will serve you.

Could be a highly experienced long time staff or a part timer working on vacation.

The experienced guy can reason with you whatever product on display, make better sales decisions and assure you. But the part timer just want to close the sale, so will say anything just to do so.

I'm sure the product in question will be priced to reflect the condition on the sale item.

One thing about buying things is not to be rash, patience will bring results. Talk with the sales staff, if he cant help, get him to bring a senior staff to you.

You patience could land you a very good deal, cuz they also want to clear that last piece which is hanging there for ages already.

Of course if you are that free, hang around there often and get to know their senior staff, sure will be rewarded with discounts and freebies in future.

That's unless the company has very poor managment and sale policy in the first place, then my suggestion is not to waste anymore time there, look elsewhere, sure to find something which suits you.
