Suhr Guitar!

Nice to see some beautiful Suhrs on this thread … must be many more out there.

Those who want to custom order a Suhr guitar should note that Suhr does not offer any discount for custom guitars, but dealers do. So, the cheaper way is to order from a Suhr dealer instead of Suhr. The spec sheet from Suhr shows the LIST price. The Dealer (MAP) price is 70% of the list price. That is the lowest price Suhr dealers can advertise a guitar, but they can sell it for less.

Some dealers offer 10% discount on custom orders. So, here's the formula for a custom order.

Final cost = LIST Price x 0.7 x 0.9 + shipping charge
or
Final cost = LIST Price x 0.63 + shipping charge

I bought my 3 Suhr guitars online from the US – Martin Music, Boston Guitar & Rocket Music. Expect to pay from US$175 (USPS Express) to US$300 (UPS/Fedex) shipping cost + 7% GST. Shipment normally takes about 7 to 10 days to arrive.

Here are the spec of my Suhr guitars – highlights only :-

1. Suhr Classic, (Charcoal Frost Metallic) alder body, maple w/ Pau Ferro neck, D shape neck .800-.880, 10”-14” radius, signed & painted matching headstock, JST V60’s single JST V54’s single and JST Aldrich Bridge Humbucker.

2. Suhr Classic, (Black) tortoise shell pickguard, alder body, maple w/ Brazilian rosewood neck, 60’s C Vintage neck .810-.930, 9”-12” radius, push pull tone knob, JST FL single coils and JST SSV Humbucker

3. Suhr Modern (Light Bengal Burst). It is actually a Guthrie Govan signature model (with Tremol-No, blower switch, Mahogany w/ Pau Ferro neck, 16" radius, etc) with the following tweaks >> Headstock painted black, chrome knobs, Modern Elliptical .780-.830 (as compared to the stock .800-.850)

three years and then some. i still love this guitar to bits, in the process of pickup change once again. started out its life with a pair of SSV and SSV+ pickups. then last june i decided to fool around and changed them to a dimarzio fred in the neck and a dimarzio super distortion in the bridge. problem is that most bridge pickups would be too tall for the shallow route in a suhr. so i had to modify the feet nothing a lil handsaw and epoxy cant fix. however im keen to try an aldrich bridge so awaiting my order to arrive then ill change out the bridge pickups. heres some pics:

Sorry for bringing up such an old thread but has anyone had the pleasure of owning an s1 and s3, or who was tried both, that can tell me the diff in feel, tone etc between both of them? I know the diff in specs but not sure which one will be more suitable for me. I like both looks, but I'm leaning more towards the s1 because of the more traditional tone woods used, something that has been tested and proven

I owned 2 S2s before. One with HSS and one with SSS. To me, fretboard wood is more of a feel preference compared to a tone preference hence I'm not too picky when it comes to that. A good guitar would sound like a good guitar anyway.

I love the contours. Every Suhr guitar that I've played feels great because all the scoops and contours are at the right places. Comfort and ease of playing were the main reasons why I bought them in the first place. Overall, I like the built but the sound is not my thing.

don't get me wrong. these are really well built guitars. I just don't like the idea of paying more than $2500 for a brand new one.

Reviving old thread.

I'm wondering if anyone has a Suhr Modern around. Specifically the Gutherie Govan model would be ideal. What do you think of the neck profile? I've been intrigued with the elliptical necks profile with 16" radius and wonder how different they feel as compared to more "conventional" dimensions say Even C with 10"/12" radius.
