Suggestion of bass about $1k

haha, why you selling the bass?

but for my recommendation,
it would be cort.
HAHA.

cause i like cort.
the artisan series should be within your budget.
i bought mine at the sweelee sale for 450bucks.

I would rather go with a P first, but I do agree that Jazzes are very versatile creatures. If you do find yourself playing with a pick quite a lot, a P would have a great tonal palette that is suited to your playing style.

+1 to shinobi and cherns. i would opt for a used cij jazz fitted with a nice preamp like an audere for added versatility...

about pbasses... you got to try them out and decide. i, for one, am not a huge fan of the middy precision pup sound. it does sound good in the mix, and that should be all that matters, but personally i'm just very uncomfortable with the hollow-ish tone on it's own. i don't use the pick btw

i would also opt for block inlays, tort/pearloid pickguard and ashtray covers

i don't like pbasses either. sounds hollowish to me too. but i wouldn't say it is middy, instead to me it sounds very flat.

but thats just me. i think it's important to get a tone that complements your playing style and the kind of music you play. or you could get a bass that inspires you to play in a certain way.

if i get a lakland it would be to supplement my jazz, and definitely a 5 stringer

i'm just curious about this, i've never owned a warwick though

the difference in weight would be down to the different kinds of body wood right? in that case i would have thought that a lighter wood would have totally different tonal characteristics from a denser wood?

The P has strong fundamentals ( might sound like muddy bass to some ) and a pretty honky mid-range. Gravy to some, like me!

I do admit the P bass sound took some time to get used to though. But I really do love its tone, all that chunky goodness that cuts through the mix like a knife through hot butter.

oddly enough. the growl is there, the RB's sustain is significantly shorter. definately different in tone, but the warwick sound signature is still there. oh yeah 1 more feature that's different.

warwicks have 2 piece bridges and rockbasses is a standard gotoh look-a-like bridge.

the 2 piece bridge is AWESOME. you can move it in all directions thus effectively changing string spacing. The tail piece is a V shape, for a 5 stringer it helps the low B string tension.
