The TriAC is designed with the guitar in mind, I think. (I can't confirm).
You might want to try out the Sansamp BDDI. To me, that one is really idiot-proof. You can visit their website for sample sounds I think. Really good gadget that many bassists will find a use for.

i like the Boss bass overdrive unit.
My bassist uses it, its got a wide range of drives. Its got that nice background fuzz.
Powerful in live situations =x
