Hi friends,
I was looking around on the net for an acoustic and realise that there are alot to choose from. I do have some guitars that I like in terms of their looks(no time to go down to the shop to try). The guitars I like are Ibanez AW140QM, Ibanez AW40 , Cort Earth 200 & Fender GC23S.

Do you guys have other suggestion for an acoustic max around S$700?

Btw what are the different between quilted maple and flame maple?

You can go to shops and try out different guitars.
I would suggest get the Hand-made guitars from the country of Origin, like Seagull, Norman and such from Canada. :)

Normans are good, i'm using a B18, very good guitar. :)

Go to a shop and give them your budget and ask them to reccomend you some acoustic guitars and if you like it or not. Dont be shy, and i think you should bring someone who 'knows' guitars

hey guy,

Flame maple and quilted maple are two different grades of Maple. you can find more information about it on the net.

If you really want to buy, you should get to the store and try out the guitars. Play it and you'll know which guitar is the right one for you.

If you are a beginner (sorry for assuming), I would suggest that Cort guitar. It's cheaper and a good quality for a beginner.
If you're performing and stuff, go for that Fender guitar.

But, I still suggest that you try out the guitars before buying. Looks of the guitar aint everything.

with that budget get a good solid top guitar.(might wanna get an semi-electric)

Maestro,Takamine will be good.

Hmm.

$700 inclusive of pickup? If without, personal recommendation: Maestro ED2 or ED3, depending on whether you prefer a brighter sound or a more warmer tonality respectively.

Its ok. But I'm not totally beginner. Somewhere in middle. I stop playing a few years ago and now starting to pick up again. I play mostly on electric so not to sure of acoustic. All this while I assume that flame and quilted maple are just the finishing.

S$700 without pickup. But I'm not to sure if it would be better to get one with a pickup. If I add a little more and get something with a pickup, I would save on the long run as I do not have to upgrade.

I would suggest getting one without the pickup first. At least then you know that you're getting $700 worth of quality acoustic, and not maybe $200 lost on the cost of the pickup (it costs around that much to have one installed). So imo, shouldn't compromise the sound for a good acoustic.

Also for acoustic guitars, you really need to try them out to see what works for you. Some guitars just feel right while others don't, so try not to narrow your options down too quickly. Just speaking from experience. All the best in your search!

This is true. Quilted maple is softer than flame maple per se. So that might contribute to why quilted maple sounds a bit mellower.

However another contributing reason is how it's sawn: flatsawn or quartersawn. And to get the quilt, it needs to be flat sawn.

But maple is still maple. Maple is very dense. It is bright and very focused. Emphasis is on the higher frequencies. Excellect choice if you want to cut through when playing in a band setting.

But here's a reality check for you. At $700, it does not matter if your back and sides are made of quilted maple or flame maple. Because at this price point, they will be laminates.

Or if we are talking in terms of a lower-end electric guitar at this price point with a flame/quilted maple top, it'd just be a veneer.

So, the subtle differences between flame and quilted maple is pretty much negated. You are much better off just understanding the tonal properties of maple in general.

Hope this helps.
