Strum and Sing club!

I'll be up for vocal coaching! (and it'll be good to receive a token sum since it's my full-time job) Now we just need someone to organise and find a place and time.

haha nice idea guys. i find that its better that we get the most people to join in our 1st ever gathering as nobody should know each other and thus it will be best that we have all the strangers to meet up to know each other? that will of course eliminate shyness from people who should join in the future when most of us would have already known each other.

also another thing is about segregating the group (is there a need? need opinions). as i feel that everyone of us are of different skill levels and i'm not ruling out the possibilities of newbies as well (since this thread lies in the depths of Rookie corner haha). this thus brings forth a much more needed 'tutor' so that we can progress together as a whole.

as for Necrome, thanks very much for the offer! perhaps we can get the group to chip in a little each meeting as the token sum? i'm not sure if its agreeable with the rest of the group but i find that if everything is really successful (with a moderately reasonable amount of regulars), its like we're paying for ur services as well!

i'm still short of locations but i'm probably gonna check up on the community centre's availability of an empty room for booking soon. other than that, anybody else with better suggestions?

Soul Asylum: Here's how it works for the other group that I told you about. The interested participants will have to PM their phone numbers and names to you and confirm attendance once you have a date and time. Fri and Sun late noon/evenings, Public Holidays are probably the better days to have it. (Though some obviously will fly your kite or M.I.A. so be mentally prepared for that.)

The attendees will then have to bring multiple copies of the song/s they want to play to share with the others (preferably with the right chord charts, cause we know how dubious online tabs can be). A few individuals should also contribute music stands if possible *volunteers my own if I'm going*.

As for the first session, I think it'll be good to stick to one group and have everyone know each other and take turns for songs. Eventually as we know each others' ability/style better then we can then split up and have groups rehearse for an hour or so and perform for other groups after the group rehearsal time. After that, a veteran guitarist (do we have someone like that who voiced interest already?) and myself can share playing and vocal exercises, tips and skills.

As for the location, I actually think SMU's public compound (the tunnel-like area) is a pretty good place to do it at if we cannot manage to get the CC/a comfortable room.

The attendees should keep in mind we are there to learn and improve, and should not expect it to be a free-form jamming session. Everyone should also turn up with a note book to take down important lessons =)

Gary.
