adjusting it too tight may push the rod outta position... use it to straighten the neck of your guitar, look from the bridge closely, then you'll see if your guitar is outta proportion, fenders have a slight curve even when adjusted, so it s normal for a little curve, after doing so, check your bridge, use your lil alan key and adjust to designated height, retune, then check for the neck again, if its curved, use alan key and adjust truss rod, then re-adjust to designated height, re-tune... check the neck again... now the final parts gonna be an irate... play a natural harmonic on 12th fret of each string... then do so on the 12th fret but play it... use your screwdriver to adjust for intonation... but you obviously must use a automatic tuner cause there sometimes might be a slight off pitch that the naked ear cant hear... do this for three or four times... keep repeating process until satisfied with the guitar... and if your truss rod is at the bottom like some japanese fenders... good luck... if fret buzzing occurs at designated setups, use cross file then use smooth file...
